What a spooky song that was, particularly to a teenager who had lived his entire life in the suburbs of Boston (meaning me).

We were talking of her the other day, aside from her beauty to think she wrote “Ode To Billie Joe” is phenomenal, her own song which is very good, as such a context to it, it is almost like one of those songs one never tires of.

I remember her. She came on quick in Country music, then proclaimed herself to be a BLUES singer and took offense when someone mentioned her C&W background.
She then married some very old rich codger and disappeared from the music scene all together.

Out of curiosity I just checked out “Money,Mississippi” on google maps and it showed photo of several *very* decrepit buildings. It looks like Money,Mississippi might be really poor.

She is from my county in MS. My hometown had a big celebration in her honor years ago. Wonder if she still has relatives there. I enjoyed her singing.

I always remember a song she did with Glen Campbell called ‘God Didn’t Make Little Green Apples’.

I was reading the Wiki entry about her, and it says that “Ode” was actually a B side to another single.
