John Robinson, of North Park, said hes tired of neighborhood pets leaving waste in his yard and is hoping the candy will prevent dog owners from walking pets near his property
A man in San Diegos North Park community has dumped chocolate chips in his yard in an effort to deter dogs, but the act is upsetting neighbors. Frustrated with neighborhood dogs leaving waste on his lawn and dog owners not picking up after their pets, a man known as "John" recently scattered several pounds of chocolate chips in the grass in front of his home on Lincoln Avenue and in a nearby easement. Suspects Sought in Attempted ATM Theft John said it was an experiment and that it worked. Over the last several days pet owners have been steering clear of his property, with some neighbors afraid the candy will make their animals sick. Some concerned residents have called San Diego County Animal Control and the San Diego Police Department to complain, saying this is threatening the lives of their pets. Unbelievable Animals: Python Swallows BBQ Tongs[NATL] Unbelievable Animal Stories Sarah Fisher is one of those worried residents, and shes warning others in North Park not to walk near Johns home. [Residents] are scared of what he might do, Fisher told NBC 7. If he is doing this which is like an animal genocide pretty much, he's putting it out for animals to ingest and get sick.
Through social media and a neighborhood phone app, Fisher has been alerting local pet owners of the chocolate chips left in John's yard. Fisher has a two-year-old golden doodle named Lucy that she walks with regularly. She is now avoiding Johns property but fears unsuspecting animals will stumble upon the candy and get sick.
John agreed to an interview Tuesday with NBC 7, if his face wasnt shown on camera. He said irresponsible dog owners are constantly not picking up after their pets and leaving piles of waste in his yard.
He said he has left signs in front of his home including a note written on a yoga mat that suggests an animal could be electrocuted if it urinates on his tires.
However, those signs dont seem to work, John said, so he came up with the chocolate chips idea.
They can walk on the other side of the street, he said. I am tired of it. People disrespect my yard; I'm tired of the stuff.
John insists chocolate won't harm the animals. Still, there is a large school of thought that says it can be toxic to dogs and can lead to illness and even death, depending on what kind of chocolate it is and how much a dog ingests.
John said he plans to mow the grass in the next few days to get rid of the remaining chocolate morsels. However, his neighbors want something done about the situation immediately.
San Diego County Animal Control Deputy Director Dan DeSousa said animal services investigators were notified of this incident by North Park residents on Monday.
He said the investigation is ongoing, and no further details would be released at this time. On Wednesday John said someone had broken the mirror on his car in what he believes is retaliation against him putting the chocolate chips in his yard.
Having your property rights violated can do that to a person.

Only a doofus would attempt to poison a dog for the actions of its owner.
And yes, by doofus, I mean a complete ahole.
LOL!
Our first dog would eat anything. And she was so smart! We had to keep all the people food under lock and key! She especially liked kosher pickles.

Sounds like the PA's are his neighbors who are the bitter a$$holes for disrespecting this man.
And those who think the guy has no right to get hacked off at 3rd world type neighbors who think nothing of using another person's property as their dog's litter box...
In my town a cell phone video is enough to get someone a ticket. Or put up a deer cam or something and tape it. Or stand out there with you cell camera and tape them. Put up some bags for those so inclined to do the clean up. Should solve the problem.
LOL that face :D
Doesn’t answer the question or have anything to do with the conversation. Plenty of loons have private property. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a loon.
The dog is on the owners leash. If the owner allows to dog to over run the leash than the owner is responsible just as if a pit bull mauls some kid.
If the guy has posted this time and again and the owner cant adhere than to bad.
We have people out here that let the dog out very early and they chase dairy cows. Not cool.Farmer posted and notified for years. Finally shot the dog.Dog owner lost a dog and the legal fight. Dumm Ass
Your responsible for your kids and pets.
Many of the HOA communities do not allow fencing, or only allow it in one small area. I have had people back their dogs up to my gardens and lay poop right on the ornamental grasses or blooming plants. That's just crassly rude and hostile. It's not their property, and they have no right to use another's property for a toilet.
Get this. Neighbors disliked me for insisting that they stay off. One of them passed by and sneered, "Renters!" Then another one suggested I should really move to the country. I concluded from this in their mind the city is for communal property rights, not private property rights.
And those who think the guy has no right to get hacked off at 3rd world type neighbors who think nothing of using another person’s property as their dog’s litter box...

still does not justify attempting to poison the dog. That simple piece of logic seems to be escaping many of the posters on this thread.
I had an Irish Wolfhound for a while that would eat an amazing array of stuff.
She would chew rocks into gravel. She ate CDs, disposable razors out of the trash, and about two feet of pink fiberglass insulation when I was converting a garage into a room. She would get horrible runny poo but then go back to loping around the yard happy as hell.
One time she came running up to me with something puffy hanging out of her mouth, and I realized she was chewing on a squirrel she had caught like a cow chewing cud.
Dogs are amazing animals.
And the fact that he posted signs as a “simple piece of logic” seems to be escaping many of the posters on this thread as well.
To catch the urine?
I'm trying to understand your point of view. They guy who doesn't want dog sh!t on his lawn is an a$$hole, but the people who bring their dogs to do the sh!tting on his lawn aren't?
That's not a dog.
Ah, the old “well you’re not wrong, but you’re still an asshole” situation.
Happens time and again.
So what do you if a wild fox, coyote, deer, etc. schits on your lawn? How does he even know it is a domesticated dog?
Nah, it doesn’t justify attempting to poison the dogs, not even a little bit. The dog has no idea that it is doing wrong, but the owners certainly do.
I could understand easier if the guy wanted to poison the owners to be perfectly honest.
These are not good dog owners allowing this to occur, these are really problematic people causing this situation to occur IMO.
I don't see any attempts to poison dogs. I see a great big warning sign for the dog owners to keep their dogs off the poor guy's lawn. So long as the dog owners do so, there shouldn't be an issue. Of course, this all changes if you don't actually believe in private property rights.
