WEDC Investigation Still Troubling for Walker
Wisconsin State Journal | 6/3/2015 | Matthew Defour

Link to Wisconsin State Journal

Due to copyright issues, I am providing a link to this article .

I was criticized yesterday for providing older articles on this subject, so I am linking one that was written yesterday. In the left margin of this article, there are links to three more current articles on the subject of the ongoing investigation into Walker's WEDC.

The issues raised here need to be factored in to the vetting process. One reason I respect and admire 2ndDivisionvet is because he posts articles about Cruz that present both sides. Sometimes he takes some heat from those who don't like the anti-Cruz articles, but as he pointed out, we need to know both sides of what's out there.

This is a serious issue. Walker created and chaired this agency until he was removed by the state legislature earlier this week. Audits have raised a lot of questions about millions of dollars that have been paid to businesses that were Walker campaign contributors. A lot of the 19 million dollars at issue was given in the form of loans that have not been paid back for the creation of jobs that have not materialized. Many of these businesses, instead of creating jobs, have outsourced thousands of jobs overseas.

There has been no follow up accountability for how the money was spent and many of the loans have already been written off at the taxpayer's expense.

Another reason to be concerned is the extreme likelihood that this will become a federal investigation. I think we can all see that the timing of this would be politically motivated to inflict the most damage, especially if Walker is on the Republican ticket.

Another Dem talking point.

I said earlier that if there was ANY substance to this, it would have came out last year. Also, Holder would have went after Walker and charged him then.

I’m not sure how you dismiss an entire investigation as a “Dem talking point”. The GOP prosecutor voted for Walker and he says that the mismanagement of the WEDC is a disgrace. He is not dismissing it.

Conservativejoy is a political troll for some campaign, perhaps a Democrat, perhaps a Republican, but being paid(over even better, dumb enough to doing it for free) to attack Walker with the same nonsense the the Milwaukee Prosecutor used.

Yeah, sure. I’m a Cruz supporter as 2ndDivision knows because I have contributed to Cruz through his bundling effort. I have also contributed to Cruz directly and am set up for monthly contributions to him.

I am also a Cruz volunteer.

Now, deal with the substance of the investigation or continue burying your head in the sand. It won’t effect the outcome of this either way.

Just remember, just because he says he is GOP doesn’t mean he isn’t a liberal,

In the GOP, we have people that attack others in the party to advance their candidate....Jeb Bush

He voted for Walker. That is the ultimate show of support. He knows a lot more than what is public knowledge about this. I imagine he feels disgusted and betrayed.

Then go out and support your candidate instead of using recycled Democrat hit pieces. You are not well informed about the “John Doe” investigations in Wisconsin and where they are in the judical reviews. You are just practicing muckracking and it will more than likely hurt Mr. Cruz.

Go out there and find good reasons for conservatives to support Cruz, right now you are just coming across as some uninformed union goon taking orders from Madison, WI.

I appreciate that you’ve found a recent article on this.

I will follow it, but it may not be the serious issue that you’ve made it out to be. And this statement:

“...the timing of this would be politically motivated to inflict the most damage, especially if Walker is on the Republican ticket...”

will not happen. Such an attack would only focus attention on the much much larger and far more serious Clinton Cash issue.

All we know now is that Walker was the head of a group that made a bad loan. The implication that taxpayer money was laundered to Walker campaign donations is a possibility, but is a long way from being a fact.

The fact the loans weren’t paid back by the end of the year isn’t known to be an issue.

The terms of the loans weren’t disclosed in any of the news articles. They might not even be known.

Apparently, the real issue is that there were 8M in loans dispensed without good documentation. No one has documented where the money is, is in back in the fund? Is it back out on additional loans?

The 8M might not even be missing.

The miss-management of this office though is bad for Walker because as the chair..he has to take responsibility for these documentation errors.

Just because you voted for the GOP candidate, that doesn’t mean you support him, if you are a party man, you vote for the party.

There is a long way to go before this plays out. I don’t like to be blindsided and have seen no other info on this at FR. I am familiar with the John Doe investigation, primarily from looking into this. There were some convictions in that case. It remains to be seen if anyone will be charged in this.

As for Clinton, you know the MSM has always covered for her. If they throw the book at Walker, you will here nary a peep about the double standard.

Thanks for posting a current link. The WEDC is a relatively minor issue for Walker, but it will have to be addressed. There will be a report on the one specific allegation (William Minahan) in July. William Minahan was a contributor and a recipient of a loan from WEDC. There may be others but the $19 million is not well documented.

The GOP prosecutor voted for Walker and he says that the mismanagement of the WEDC is a disgrace. He is not dismissing it.

Please provide a link where Francis Schmitz said that. As far as I know, Francis Schmitz is involved only in the John Doe investigation, and is not investigating the WEDC loans. The Francis Schmitz is on hold and has been for a year as it is in legal review. It may be continue or be killed by the Wisc. Supreme Court.

In short the John Doe investigation, conducted by Francis Schmitz, is on hold. The WEDC is not being investigated although various political enemies of Walker are asking for one.

Me too

But the articles you are posting, I am a very critical reader.

There are words of assumption all over these.

You pull out the facts, what you have left is Scott Walker Chairing an agency with a bunch of miss-management that was out of control and he has to take responsibility for.

Everything else is the article’s authors insertion of their own personal bias.

Correct, but please supply all the relevant details. The John Doe investigation was politically motivated. The John Doe charges were made by Dem prosecutors in 2010 and 2012 before the GOP special prosecutor was appointed in late 2013.

cj is purposefully conflating two issues. First is that a GOP special prosecutor was appointed in late 2013 following the obviously partisan witch hunts via John Doe in 2010 and 2012. Second, there are allegations in the newspapers of improper loans to campaign contributors. Those have yet to be investigated and will be a separate investigation. As far as cj saying it will be federal, that can’t be ruled out, but right now that is a Dem talking point.

The documentation for many of these loans seems to be missing. Some of these businesses could not get loans elsewhere because they were too risky. None of the loans were secured nor were they conditional upon job creation or anything else. The whole thing stinks like a dead fish.

If any financial institution had conducted business this way, bank officials would be doing time. Taxpayers deserve the same consideration as bank customers.

Walker can’t manage the WEDC in a responsible, competent manner, but he wants us to let him run the country.

I appreciate your comments. Thanks for analyzing the material in a thoughtful way.

“... Holder would have went (sic) after him then and charged him.”

I DON’T BELIEVE THAT. I believe this WH and DOJ would be willing to let this hang in the air, unresolved, so as to use it as a “surprise” if Walker should run for President. If Walker would have chosen not to run, they would have held it to use against Walker in a re-election for Governor campaign.

Proving once again .. that this admin is only interested in ONE THING - TEARING THE GOP CANDIDATES APART ALONG WITH THIS COUNTRY.

I sent this article to you in a link yesterday. You said I should have posted it in a thread instead of the other articles. Now that I did what you suggested, you have done nothing but attack me. I did not write the article.
