It’s “Goodbye, Darkness: A Memoir of the Pacific War”.

An amazing book. Manchester was one hell of a writer, and it was his personal story, which really brought it home.

Robert Leckie was another brilliant writer; “Helmet for my Pillow” should be in every library, along with his “For A Few Acres of Snow: A Saga Of the French and Indian War”.
