The Act stipulated “children of citizens”. It takes two.

You raise a good point. The plural "citizens" implies that both parents would have had to have been citizens for the child to be automatically considered a "natural born citizen".

Per NPR, Cruz's father did not become a US citizen until 2005, meaning that, at the time of Cruz's birth in Canada, he only had one parent being a US citizen.

LOL! That is to amend the (normally) non-amendable item.

Otherwise, it takes only 51 votes to “Thumbs-down” the agreements. That hasn’t changed one iota.

Do you have anything better than what you’ve posted?

I think Trump has reached a stage in life where he has acquired everything he wanted. I once watched an hour long video of his chairing a meeting of his resort managers. I have attended many corporate meetings, but Trump was exceptional in his management skills, command of the 100 or so resort managers working for him, and the adulation which was so apparent in their behavior towards him. I came away impressed.

If this guy can manage the country as well as he manages his businesses, it can mean only positive things. So what if he benefits personally from becoming president...don’t they all?

No, the way Hatch revised the bill was to ensure that it took a full 60 votes to disapprove of the treaty, rather than a simple majority of 51 votes to approve it, making it almost impossible to stop Obama on this thing.

Go back and read all the FR thread about it from a few weeks back when everyone was outraged over Hatch's attempted trickery.

I find it astounding that so many are now sticking your heads in the sand because Cruz is backing it. Good grief! Wake up!

While some constitutional issues are truly difficult, with framing-era sources either nonexistent or contradictory, here, the relevant materials clearly indicate that a “natural born Citizen” means a citizen from birth with no need to go through naturalization proceedings

'no need to go thru naturalization proceedings'... as there are no conflicts. there would only be one citizenship possible and no decision which citizenship the person would hold.

at birth, Ted Cruz was a canadian citizen having been born on the soil. if anything, he is a natural born citizen of canada. but he was also a US and Cuban citizen, as bestowed by his respective parents.

if the term 'natural born citizen' were to mean anyone that was a US citizen at birth, then anyone being born in the US could be president regardless of the citizenship of the parents. if this were the case, then the son of william and kate, if born in NYC, would be a US citizen. as such, he could one day be president of the US as well as the future king of england. this is the exact situation the founders wanted to avoid... which is why they chose the phrase 'natural born citizen' as any eligible person would have only one citizenship possibility at birth.

it is ludicris to suggest otherwise.

1) Voting for a bill kept secret is WRONG (unless it is intelligence-related)

2) Voting to rewrite the rules so trade bills are easier to pass is WRONG

3) What are the consequences if the trade deal is not made public for 60 days? Answer: none

Well put, good points and good questions. I was all in for Cruz, and I feel now that he fooled me bad. (There are 3 other LARGE points besides this nightmare for America ‘trade’ thing that a true Conservative, as Cruz is portrayed, would not be in support of also and that have driven me from Cruz). These TPP and TPA things are not minor, they will help damn near complete Barry’s ‘fundamental transformation of America’. How ANY Conservative could support them is unconscionable. But there are! Siding right along with Barry and the supporters of these insidious America destroying ‘trade’ things!! So whom to vote for? I have no idea. It was Ted Cruz 100%. Nobody else considered. (If Sarah were running she has been my no. one choice all along but I think she will not be involved.) Unless Ted has something ‘up his sleeve’ and will be changing his stance 180 degrees on these 4 very LARGE points he supports that are flat out horrible for our Country......I just don’t know.

The Naturalization Act of 1790:

The Act also establishes the United States citizenship of certain children of citizens, born abroad, without the need for naturalization: “the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens: provided, That the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States”.
___________________________

I did a little checking. Somebody is not playing straight. It looks like the quote I posted left out the last clause which I have reinserted (beginning with “provided”).This rules out Cruz and Obama, does it not? I had copied it from a previous poster who was maintaining Cruz was eligible. The point I am making refers to what the Founders had in mind when they used the term “natural born citizen”. Obviously, naturalization has been changed since 1790.

odawg, is it possible that you think that TPA (Trade Promotion Authority or fast track) is TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership)?

I think you, as a conservative, should know exactly which ideology is causing 93 million Americans to have no job.

Cruz has gone out of his way to Bold Faced Lie to us.
Because he betrayed us and has teamed up with Ryan to scam us with some funny oped in the worse way.Paul Ryan is traitor .

You can not amendment this treaty once Fast track was passed and Cruz knows that.
So why tell this lie to fool us.
Open ended Treaties are the most dangerous instrument in the worked to give to our Enemy Barry the Soros puppet.

Cruz conservative sideshow while he while destroyed the Constitutional rules about 66 votes is the most insulting behavior of all of them. .

Those are the facts .

Lots of strawman logic coming out of your box.

I said absolutely nothing about the military.

My comment was in regard to your childish appeal for validity for your trolling based on your unproven lifer career.

Are you just another “Deep in the Hurtgen Forest?”

Most military here do not troll against our patriots in congress.
