Kind of early this year; I think a year or two ago A-Basin was open into July.

Wow, that's late. Breckenridge closes in April.

We used to ski at Mammoth on Memorial Day and thought that was special. Did Mammoth ever get snow this year?

One can still walk up , then ski down over most mountain passes and /or peaks.

When I lived there, I remember one ski resort maintaining a thin ribbon of snow down the mountain until July 4th each year.

Was that A-Basin?

With all the rain we’re getting in these parts they’ll be complaining about the rising great lakes again this year.

Probably; they're always the last one open.

Yep

Folks do that at mt Logan in Glacier

A Basin has always stayed open latest in lower 48

In my day it was all bowl and steep couloir style runs

And thin air

I skied there in 77 shirtless and no sunscreen buzzed into next year

I fell

My back was scratched up

I remember girls skiing in bikinis

Breckenridge only had two peaks then

But real men skied west back side of Taos

That run named after some guy

I ended up in hospital in Santa Fe for Oral and maxillofacial surgery

I was supposed to be at college

My daddy was so pissed

Man we would get high and drink and take ludes and just point out skis downhill

Boy to be young again

I’m way too old and beat up now but I hear the new bad boy is Silverton Mountain in the San Juans

An area I know well from hiking and climbing

And an area you can drive a four wheel drive way way up near the Animas

I bet it’s bare rocky and steep

With plenty chutes

God love em

Now, is this a long ski season (Global cooling) or a shorter ski season (global warming)?

They warned us that warming was just around the corner and THEY WERE RIGHT. Sad to see the last ski area in Colorado have to close up. The state was making a lot of money from all of the tourist-skiers coming in.

(reminds me of an early cable TV ad when the guy was pitching heating oil futures in October, telling us that he had inside information that cold weather was just around the corner)

Wow, that's late. Breckenridge closes in April.

A lot of places could stay open until late May or June. They close earlier, however, not because of a lack of snow, but a lack of people to justify the cost of staying open.
