Is that mess hall different from the airport food facility?

I can’t remember where we ate, when we would pass through on flights.

I think a passenger could be both grateful for the hospitality of the good people at Goose Bay *AND* want to take a pound of flesh from whatever screw-up or screw-ups were responsible for the flight.

I mean I *LOVE* Montana, family there and all that, but I can imagine someone being rather upset at the persons responsible for them HAVING to stop and stay a while there if it were unplanned.

I sort of wondered the same thing when I saw the story on the national news.

It looked like they were doing the best they could for them. Certainly could have been a lot worse.

Better there than the King Neptune Hotel.

Thank-you, Canadians, for being kind to these passengers.

“Life in Goose Bay army base, living the dream. Thanks United Airlines,” someone else tweeted.

Now THAT’S funny.

As much as I HATE UA, especially the terminal staff; I would still be praising them for a safe passage to the USA.

They are demonstrating that safety is priority one. We can take a stop on Canada and have stories to tell.

Those Europe to west coast runs are over uninhabited areas of Canada. I always wondered what the surface was like.

Stopped at Goose Bay in August of ‘90 en route to Saudi Arabia...

Nice folks. Did their best to accommodate a late night arrival.

So if any folks from Goose Bay are reading this, thank you.

Been to Goose many times. It is not the Intercontinental, but nice, friendly, clean with great food. If you don’t like the place, LEAVE. Oh, you landed with an emergency and can’t? Sad. Weasels. It is a nice place, apparently there are some who aren’t as nice as Goose.

Sounds nicer than the really crummy Days Inn (no restaurant within walking distance) that USAir dumped us in for 3 days in Charlotte. Gave us food vouchers that the pizza and chinese delivery services wouldn’t take.

How did so many trailer park residents suddenly decide to go to London at the same time?

Maybe United should publish the passenger list so that normal people can commiserate...
Were they all entitled Chicago EBT recipients?

I once stayed in Goose Bay three days and two nights after the plane was diverted, and was treated royally by everyone.

I got gypped! When I got stuck in an airport it was just boring Las Vegas. I got stuck over night after missing a transfer. This would make a better story!

Can the public visit and maybe stay at that base? I’d like to go there both to thank them for hosting those ingrates and also to have a great time. I don’t expect it rival London or Paris, but I also don’t want to go to a once-great city that’s been repopulated.

On one flight across the Atlantic they had air-ground available the lady in the tower in Gander (Newfoundland, not far Goose Bay) was telling the planes that they would not have coverage over the North Atlantic and to report several hours later to a tower in Europe.

All I could think of is how she would feel if she were the last person to talk to one of those planes (maybe ours) if the plane went down, especially if the plane was never found.

I applaud United for playing it safe, and they may want to start to doing what Uber (the new-age taxi service) does and rate their passengers. My kids, of course, are very highly rated and it takes them about 30 seconds for an Uber to show up - maybe United can give lower fares to passengers that don’t make asses out of themselves.

Since is is so great and wonderful why did the crew go to a hotel?

Did they want to punish themselves for screwing up the flight?

And why did UA defend the crew going off to a hotel by saying they needed to be "well rested" implying that the accommodations at Grey Goose were not conducive to their being able to handle the plane the next day?
