So, I've decided on the handgun I'm going to buy. Opinions? (Vanity)

S&W M&P was my long gun, until that terrible fire one night where all my ammo cooked off and the firemen couldn’t get near...

9mm ammunition is almost always easier to find since it’s the standard for most militaries and police departments.

Check out the Taurus 709 Slim. Cheap, dependable. Rated among the best when compared to comparable models. (9mm in the tests) Good CC piece.

I’m the NYC/USSR loser who’s never held a gun. Go with the big one!
Honestly, I’m looking into shooting ranges because it is way past time.
Good luck on your purchase!

M&Ps have horrendous triggers that are not easily corrected.
To: Skooz
A perfectly good choice. I personally would go with a Sig or Glock but that is more personal than anything else. I just might recommend a longer barrel tho.
Either caliber with the right bullets is good.

I read that S&W corrected the trigger problem a few years ago.

Collect them in all shapes and sizes... a harder decision is which to let go of. (Or go SCUBA Diving for once they are lost in a terrible boating accident)

Think ‘ammo availability’. Also, why not a Glock?
To: Skooz
Any gun that you can fire under assault is a great gun. I have .38s and 9s. several are placed throuhout my home and 1 in the car. The key is —can you fire it under pressure with two hands to the trunk of the attacker? I have 17 rounds in mine and my strategy is to get to my Wilson auto shotguns with 5 #4 shells loaded If I make it , those bastards are dead 3 times. Good luck and God Bless.

Actually, it was a coin flip between this and a comparable Glock.

Do you still have to take off the sights to clean them up? Have they changed the geometry?
Try an M&P trigger, then try the Sig 320 trigger. The answer will be immediately obvious either way.
To: papertyger
Sorry, I mean take off the sights to polish up the trigger components.
To: Skooz
Your first handgun should be a simple revolver like this S&W.

Should be fine if you like it. If I could only have one, a 4/6” .357.

We sell lots of both at the shop where I work. Even big guys report that .40 has an uncomfortable recoil.
