surplusage; noun

1. (law) (in pleading, etc) irrelevant matter, such as a superfluous allegation

2. an excess of words

3. a less common word for surplus

Etymology: 1375-1425; late Middle English; see surplus, -age

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

oh that is disturbing. Faith in Jesus Christ is what saves. period. end of story. if you have that, and seek to honor Him, you are going to do good works. I honestly do not know why people [and I am looking at you, religion forum] go on and on and on and ON about the theology of it, and beat each other up over who is right. it serves NO purpose, brings no glory or honor to God, and only delights Satan to have believers tearing each other down that way.

James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.

"Faith alone" is the Protestant heresy. We are saved by grace alone, which results in our faith which is shown by its works. Both faith and works are secondary and motivated by grace.

It all depends on how you define “faith,” of course. There is the danger that saying “faith alone” can lead people to believe it is only an intellectual assent to a set of ideas that is necessary.

Which is why we avoid it, usually. It all comes from grace. Grace transforms us. Grace animates our faith. Grace empowers our works.

Grace is varied, God is free to grace us as he sees fit...not all grace results in faith..but when he give us faith that all changes.

SrB often expounds on the word love...it’s a noun, yet a verb and it must be both to be love. I feel the same way about faith. Noun and verb, must be both. Only if our good deeds are done through our faith in Jesus are we doing God’s work, thus our faith is now an action....and alive.

Egads, this is getting deep. I merely wished to point out some Catholics who have not read their Bibles or thought this through. How can you not know WHO Paul is?

my convert friend said that the real answer was we are saved by grace....I said no...we are saved by faith alone, just as the Bible says.

Ephesians 2:8 says we are saved BY grace, through faith, and even that faith is not of ourselves but rather is the gift of God.
