[history]
Richard Matt, one of two escaped murderers from an upstate New York prison, has been shot and officers involved in a nearly three-week manhunt are pursuing fugitive David Sweat, a law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said Friday.
Escaped murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat may be headed to Canada, a New York State Police spokesman said Friday.

So, who shot him if no one saw them?

Sounds like the authorities shot one but the other got away on foot.

Did they have to actually shoot him? Couldn't they just wave the gun in his direction and chant a power word or something? Could they not have used some of those magical bullets that change direction in mid-air and then disintegrate before contact? Couldn't they have just given him a good meal and read a couple of chapters of "Walden" to him?

Good point. I wonder if he was unarmed with his hands up. I hope there will be an independent autopsy performed to make sure this is not a civil rights issue.
