Well yes, but, that’s exactly like a cop. One is always supposed to pull over for a cop. In MA, pretending you are one can accomplish the same affect. :-)

Technically one is always supposed to stay in the rightmost lane so as to not impede the flow of traffic. No police tactics required.

You “learned to drive in Boston”? Please. :-) Now perhaps if you said you learned how not to drive in Boston, that might be something I could support. :-)

Having driven in most parts of the country, I see drivers from the Boston area as tending to be more aware of their surroundings and generally more capable at higher speeds and in tighter situations. In my experience Illinois drivers are usually the least attentive and most careless.

I actually learned how to drive on my trip across country.

That would be a lot of driving!

I learned that some places police actually do enforce the traffic laws. For instance, in CA you are required to stop as soon as a pedestrian steps off the curb. Such was unheard of at the time in MA. Also, CA had these 4 way intersections with stop signs at each crossing. Right of way law prevailed which said the first to stop is the first to go. Never a problem.

Except that everyone has to stop, usually multiple times, before they get through the intersection. This wastes time, fuel, and brake pads.

It worked very well and people got thru quickly and easily.

It's generally the most wasteful type of intersection next to stoplights.

This of course would create chaos in MA. Talk about road rage.

New England has classically used rotaries and round-abouts instead. These intersections allow drivers to maintain speed with less congestion and waste. They are now beginning to be used in the rest of the country. That said, it only takes one nincompoop to wreck the flow for everybody, and yes, angry horns and gestures may result!

Wicked pissah.

Phrase only to be used by eastern Massachusetts, coastal NH and coastal Maine kids.

Actually I've heard some kids from Brooklyn (not Brookline) use that expression too.
