Box Office: ‘Magic Mike XXL,’ ‘Terminator Genisys’ No Match for ‘Inside Out,’ ‘Jurassic World’

Arnold Schwarzenegger and a team of male strippers are no match for a plucky pre-teen and the mighty Indominus rex.

“Inside Out” and “Jurassic World” are racing ahead of newcomers “Magic Mike XXL” and “Terminator Genisys” in the lead-up to the July 4th holiday. The Disney and Pixar animated blockbuster about the emotional life of a young girl racked up $7.7 million on Thursday, bringing its North American haul to $216.1 million, while Universal’s dinosaur thriller added $6.9 million to its $527.2 million domestic haul.

Sounds like both Mike and Terminators are a bit of a flop. More so Terminator.

At least one of the Terminator trailers gave away the entire plot, including the movie's big surprise. And some of the acting in the trailer seemed really poor.

T2 was the last decent Terminator movie. The subsequent follow-ons have been disappointing.

“Paramount’s “Terminator Genisys” was close behind, pulling in $6.5 million and bringing its total to $15.4 million.”

That’s a Box office flop for you on a holiday weekend.

Hollywood seems to lost it’s creative ability. All we are seeing are reruns of the same movie like Terminator, Jurassic Park and even Top Gun coming out later.

At least with “Star Wars” the story continues, but I can’t help but wonder if people will grow tired of it?

Sort of like the last of the final Hobbit series movie that just came out which I think is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings? In any event, that movie and entire series has run it course.

The only movies I can think of that still have a lot of Box Office success are the James Bond movies and perhaps the Star Trek movies?

Agree T1 and T2 were good movies.

The other 2 forget about them.

I don’t expect them to be made, but Tolkien’s Silmarillion story-line is still untapped. Quite a few wonderful tales there that could be filmed. But, hopefully not by Peter Jackson who started off fairly well but then turned the movies into long, ponderous videogames which deviated too much from Tolkien’s tale.

It is a long way to Monday to see who wins this. Hollywood has had a really good year so far with American Sniper (I no it was released in December), Fast furious, Jurassic World, Avengers, and quite a few others that have made a ton of money this year. They need to keep it up.

Thanks!

Jurassic Park not my cuppa tea.

Haven’t seen a movie in a theatre since 07. I use Redbox and Netflix, I’m very happy with that. No muss, no fuss, no crowds.

I saw Master and Commander when it was just out. Great flick.

The next time that I walked into a theater I was seriously beseeched. I saw that stupid ‘Hunger Games.’ Two nights later I was admitted to the hospital for evaluation over some lab result problems.

Coincidence? No way.

Terminator 2 brought the story full-circle and ended. That is what James Cameron told everyone in 1991. There is no more Terminator after that final scene in the steelworks.

Just like there is no more Alien after Ripley, Newt and Hicks are in hypersleep en route to Earth.

By the way, this is my first post. I’m looking forward to being part of the discussion here :)

Hollywood seems to lost it’s creative ability.

Just saw "Inside Out" today. I was pleased to see an original idea in the movie - different characters playing the emotions of the cast characters and being cast characters themselves. It was a clever idea. It is worthwhile and it shows the degenerates at the top of Disney that PG and G rated movies do well.
