I have a Cuisanart Keurig style, that comes with a little ‘dring your own’ filter and cup to use whatever you want in it. It makes a great and quick brew, and I can use whatever beans by grinding them and using the supplied filter and basket thingy. Mmm, gooood.
If you are not a huge coffee drinker but you want a lot of variety, I’d get an inexpensive Keurig and get a sample pack. Go on ebay or craigslist and pick one up in good condition. This way you won’t have a big can of coffee getting stale, or multiple large cans taking up space.
Keurig would work for him. He doesn’t drink coffee, he’s getting it for occasional visitors mainly. He wants potentially a lot of variety, so a sample pack could do that.
As far as work to make the coffee it will be painless. I got a very high end one used on ebay. I don’t always want to pull out my aero for a cup.
Well beer is better for you than a soda is. Won’t spike your blood sugar and it actually has some nutrients in it as opposed to liquid sugar water or aspartame/formaldehyde.
You don’t have to use pre-made k-cups. There are reusable k-cups you fill up with your preferred coffee.

It is a lot better than a Keurig.
Great choices for coffee beans! Jamaican Blue Mountain and REAL 100% Kona are among the best. My favorite coffee maker has been a Capresso CoffeeTEAM. It will automatically burr grind the beans just before it brews and it brews coffee at over 200 degrees. It brings out the best in high quality coffee beans. Around two hundred bucks
We have a coffee thread here and no one has mentioned “Kona”
This stuff is heaven on earth to a coffee drinker. The aroma is therapy alone. Grind some of these beans up and you can’t go wrong, it is so addicting.
Bed Bath and Beyond sells them online and they will ship K-cups for free. If you sign up for offers they will send you a coupon code good for 20% off any online purchase monthly.

Yes, I agree, forget the Kona blends, they are second best.
I’ll try the Blue Mountain, thanks.
Excellent post. All good replies.

Pod coffees are 75% good.
French press is 95% awesome.
Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk is very good 80%.
Grinder with pour over of cone filter over a cup is 100%.
Cowboy coffee with green beans in a skillet over a camp fire for 10 minutes and then ground and placed in the cup of hot water is a fun 85%.
I don’t think I even spend nine dollars for the K-Cups at Walmart. Since I’m on a fixed income, I’m always looking for lower prices on lots of things.
The Keurig is a good choice for me because I have a habit of not making coffee every day, and therefore, I forget to clean up the pot. With this, I don’t worry about it. :o]
Dear Mr. Perdogg,
Forget everything you’ve read here. Load the ladies into your Maserati Ghibli and take them to the nearest Starbucks. Think CAR, not coffee maker.
In # 120 above: Emirel = Emeril (dyslexic)
Then I use a stainless steel saucepan, small, heat the water to boiling, turn off, put the ground coffee in it and let it steep for a few minutes. Then pour through a small sieve (I have a cheapo plastic one with a fine mesh).
My mother used the egg shells sometimes. She said water is a key component. She would know certain places where the water made better coffee. So maybe bottled water?
You have to experiment.
And if you don't have a grinder, you can put in a plastic freezer bag (baggies too thin) and pound with a hammer.
Right now I have some nice dark roast Starbuck's beans and keep them in the freezer.
I'll second that. Makes really good coffee, is inexpensive, and is simple.
Don't skimp on the amount of coffee in the filter.
LOLOLOLOL
Agree. Don’t skimp, but when my family and I were living in Europe I noticed that all the pre-ground coffee in the stores was ground very fine compared with what’s on offer off the shelf here. The resulting coffee seemed to have a more robust flavor using the same amount of fill in the filter. One thing I hate is coffee that looks like tea and taste’s like $#/+. Embarrassingly, that kind of coffee is available overseas under the title “American Coffee”.
