Donald Trump is not a pleasant man. He is egotistical, vain, bombastic, often mean-spirited. He revels in his financial superiority, which he conflates with human goodness. When he contorts his mouth into a kind of tube as he talks, you brace yourself for something outrageousand it nearly always emerges as expected. His likability quotient, at least in terms of his public persona, is down somewhere in single digits.
And yet he has just taken hold of the American political system by the neck and doesnt seem inclined to let go anytime soon. The political elites dont know what to do or say about his sudden rise in the polls. The elite media default to their favorite hobby horse of political analysisthat any backlash to the current wave of immigration will simply destroy the Republican Party earlier than it would otherwise be destroyed, which is inevitable anyway so why bother?
The latest poll, by The Economist and YouGov, has Trump leading the field of GOP presidential candidates with 15 percent, four percentage points ahead of former Florida governor Jeb Bush. Though the YouGov polling methodology is sometimes criticized, this result matches other polls, including a recent North Carolina survey that has Trump at 16 percent, again four percentage points ahead of Bush. There is widespread speculation that Trump ultimately will initiate an independent presidential candidacy and shake up the countrys politics in the general election.
So here we have a hard-working, conventional Republican candidate in Jeb Bush, who has amassed a strong record as a serious politician over many years and has the benefit of a hallowed political name. And suddenly he finds himself second fiddle to an upstart industrialist with an acid tongue, no political record, and a penchant for offensive remarks.

Agree... I do believe that Cruz will soar after the debates and hope that Mr. Trump puts his money behind his words and support Cruz.
Yep, just like Obama. its an adorable quality in a man, dont you think?
And I most sincerely hope and pray that you are right.
You are exactly right on the mark.
I don't care about that at all. I can even see some benefits to it. The question is could/would he get the job done? Cruz would sell the ideas better, Walker might pursue them against the screaming of the Left, but that's about it. None of the other candidates will do anything about this problem. Not one.
He speaks the truth—a truth that has seen illegals kill in accidents, gang killings, and randon act of rape and barbarism—Its enough that people sence this is happening. Now—not all illegals are killers—but enough are that it creates a preception—many feel. Every one who has suffered at the hands of an illegal feels this—friends and family of people hit by them, know this—and the number is growing each week. Parties pandering to Blacks, to Latino leftists, forget—there is a white population—and the days of the race card are about done—the Confederate Flag issue seems to show this. People feel they are being ruled by a tyranny of the minority—but a majority are starting to speak...
Fine with me too! He can be mean to the Obama Admin, the leftist cabal, the media, the Go-pee establishment and the Washington Cartel.
Ted Cruz is. I think.
Then none of the other candidates is worth considering.
But this is not the only issue of concern to me. Trump is not where I want to see a Presidential candidate on a whole range of issues. Take health care.
Trump does not display the level of thinking or the direction if thinking I want in a Presidential Candidate:
"I said Im conservative, generally speaking, Im conservative, and even very conservative. But Im quite liberal and getting much more liberal on health care and other things. I really say: Whats the purpose of a country if youre not going to have defensive and health care? If you cant take care of your sick in the country, forget it, its all over. I mean, its no good. So Im very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care.
Whats that? "Whats the purpose of a country if youre not going to have defensive and health care? If you cant take care of your sick in the country, forget it, its all over. I mean, its no good.
Wow, theres a first class conservative mind at work there. not.
The article is BS.
The competition is Ted Cruz and he is just a fireece and on point as Trump.
[I do believe that Cruz will soar after the debates...]
I applaud your optimism but keep in mind that Fox News will have ‘new and improved’ polls out before the debates and he’ll be lucky to be placed in the separate ‘loser’ debates.
That would be the best ticket this country has ever had!
Hillary can slink back to New York.
I’m willing to hear a plan. I’m rapidly tiring of the ideological purity game, too.
Obama doesn’t come close. Remember my definition. At what has Obama ever been successful? Obama would come under the heading of a passive, aggressive jerk.
So Im very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care.

I agree with you JV, we need to insure that every American has access to “quality” health care. But, there has got to be a better way than ObamaCare; when under that plan a 56 y.o. widow, in CA, is required to have pregnancy coverage at a sky-high premium. That’s just ONE flaw in the ACA. I think Ted Cruz could put together a “team” that could come up with a workable plan. It’s a shame this was not taken care of long ago before a radical Marxist occupied the White House.
There is a time and a place for everything! ;-)
Trump is saying what everybody is thinking.
People are tired of having courts strike down the will of the people and there has been a silenced majority that are pissed off.
A FReeper (can’t remember who) said Trump’s job is to be the snowplow that clears the street for Cruz!
