Back in 2008 Barack Obama promised his supporters that he would not take their guns.
“I believe in the Second Amendment. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away… But I am not going to take your guns away. So if you want to find an excuse not to vote for me, don’t use that one because it just ain’t true. It ain’t true.”

Now this… Barack Obama is looking to ban Social Security recipients from owning guns as part of his new gun control policies. FOX News reported:
“ The Obama administration wants to keep people collecting Social Security benefits from owning guns if it is determined they are unable to manage their own affairs, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The push, which could potentially affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, according to the paper.
The language of federal gun laws restricts ownership to people who are unable to manage their own affairs due to “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” – which could potentially affect a large group within Social Security, the LA Times reported.
If Social Security, which has never taken part in the background check system, uses the same standard as the Department of Veterans Affairs – which is the idea floated – then millions of beneficiaries could be affected, with about 4.2 million adults receiving monthly benefits that are managed by “representative payees.”

I could see how this could easily progress from gun bans just for those unable to care for themselves financially, to “If your want a Social Security check, TURN IN YOUR GUNS!” within 2-3 years.

I think of all the stories I have read where an armed senior citizen intervened in robberies and save lives. It is fairly common.
It is scary to think that were they to get this initiated, they control the healthcare system, so seniors can basically be diagnosed with whatever they want to justify confiscation of their weapons.
According to SS criteria a representative payee is required when an adult is legally incompetent. If a court has declared a person incompetent it usually involves a lot of evidence from medical experts. This is not a rubber stamp process. Honestly, mentally incompetent people should not own guns. This is not about a person who sometimes forgets where they put their car keys. This is about people who already have severe restrictions placed upon their independence because it has been determined when left to their own devices they pose a danger to themselves.
It is not safe for themselves or to others for them to be in the possessions of fire arms. What would concern me is if SS decided the ban applied to households and not only to the individual.

They have legal president by the brady handgun control act of 1993 [the same one used to disarm Disabled Veterans] Even though the act does NOT specifically speak of us Veterans, [there is a letter of understanding between the batf, va & the dept of [IN]justice]] and uses a admin law judge to make the ruling on who is able & unable to have an firearm!
there is a way to regain our firearm right/s back...just RENOUNCE your Veteran Benefits for ever & all time & never to regain them ever again...

This is an open letter to EVERY person who has ever served in the Gov.’t since 1992. Once again you have doused your hands in the blood of UNARMED service personal. I will start with every member of Congress since 1992, through the presidents of Wm. Jefferson Clinton, George Walker Bush & Barack Hussain Obama, all the members of the Supreme Court [& all the lower courts as well] & every UNelected bureaucrat that has every worked for the gov.’t since then. Everyone of you are responsible for the disarming of the military bases [every office space is a base] & disarming of Disabled Veterans, for your political correctness. YOU ALL have paid lip service to us all saying that these problems were going to be corrected, but there was no political will to do so, and you had to bow down to the public service unions!. So now we have 4 more dead MARINES, because they could NOT defend themselves or others. They have sworn to defend the Country with their very lives [which you all are more than ready to throw away at will], but you have nor will NOT allow them to defend themselves. You all have also disarmed Disabled Veterans who also have sworn the same oath. And again we are told we get to it later when we have the votes. Now you get to go look into the eyes of those who have survived such assaults & those who have lost loved ones, but I doubt you’ll even bother to learn their names or anything about them. But you’ll be there for a photo op. & you’ll run over each other & anyone else who gets in your way to a camera or tv show where you’ll spout you drivel about how bad this was & maybe we’ll try to fix soon enough. ENOUGH with you lies & platitudes. You ALL should go into the unemployment lines , as there will be NO court to hold you all liable in this! And you can bet you bottom dollar, that I’ll be doing my best to send you there!

But what we have here is the federal government planning to unilaterally declare people incompetent for the purpose of disarming them. Yes, it's not an easy process now, but it will get simpler and faster in no time.
This is not the purview of the federal government in the first place. Add to that this will end up being a bureaucratic process, not a legal one.
There are better and more localized mechanisms for dealing with this at the state & local level. Nationalizing a process like this will evolve into full fledged tyranny in no time. Always remember we are talking about people who are openly and aggressively using federal agencies to destroy political dissidents.
