Bison attacks woman who was trying to take selfie with it in Yellowstone Park

Visitors to Yellowstone Park seem to be having trouble taking in the message that it's not a good idea to get too close to the wild bison that roam the wilderness.

The latest person to find out the hard way is a 43-year-old Mississippi woman who tried to take a selfie with one of the hairy beasts near a trail on Tuesday.

She and her daughter turned their backs to the bison, which was about 6 yards away, to take a photo with it, according to the National Park Service.

"They heard the bison's footsteps moving toward them and started to run, but the bison caught the mother on the right side, lifted her up and tossed her with its head," the park service said in a statement Wednesday.

Her family drove her from the site of the attack, near the Fairy Falls trailhead, to the Old Faithful Clinic in the park for treatment. She was released with minor injuries.

It used to be “Here. Hold my beer.” Now it’s “I’m going to take a selfie.”

Why go to Pamplona, Spain when you can go to Yellowstone?

Just a guess here but I am thinking these folks have a “I believe you Anita’ bumper sticker in their past or a “Sanders in 2016” in their future.

I bet she asked the buffalo, “Does what I’m wearing make my butt look big?”

It’s no laughing matter, believe me.

I was bit by a bison once...or maybe it was a moose...or maybe it was a mosquito. I disremember right now.

Maybe the buffalo is asking, "Does this woman impaled on my horns make my head look too big?"

What looks like a big lumbering animal is often much faster than it appears to be.

There is a herd of bison near me, I cannot tell you how many times I have been driving by and witnesses some family that is out amongst the bison to get better pictures. Most people have no idea how dangerous they can be, and yes they are fast. I used to stop and warn people but they would always look at me as though I was the idiot, so now I just drive on by.

Mrs. Joe's uncle raised them for a while. They are strong, fast, and ornery, even when 'domesticated'.

He finally went back to cattle and sold the bison herd because they were too tough to handle.

Hey, you can’t live forever, right. Wouldn’t it be more noble to be killed by a bison than in a carjacking?

6 yards, uh huh... sure. Bison can get unnerved but people are usually lying about the distance. Folks get way too close and the animals usually try to warn them off with flaring nostrils and even head tossing. You are in very serious trouble when those signs appear. But as many times as I've been in Custer State Park in South Dakota, Yellowstone, and other places with freely roaming Bison, I've yet to see anybody charged or run off who wasn't a lot closer than that.

Nature is a bad neighborhood. All of the other animals seem to get that. Strangely, the apex predator does not.

People have really got to stop thinking Disney films are fact based.

Geez, this woman is a Darwin award nominee.

...and not nearly as pleasant as that dairy cow you took the selfie with yesterday!
