Freelance camera operator Harrisen Howes lost a small camera drone two months ago after his roommate “drunkenly” crashed it onto a neighbors roof high overhead. After recently purchasing a larger, camera-equipped drone, Howes decided to try and rescue his old drone with his new one using some rope and hooks fashioned from coat hangers.

That was way cool. When are you going to get one? You could get some great pics of your swamp critters. Your fans, including me, are waiting.

I have a Phantom I and hate not being able to view the video while flying (Iphone and Phantom controls on the same frequency). I’d love to get a Phantom II or III but really can’t justify to the wife why I need one.

Here’s a vid I shot of our Military Vehicle Preservation Assoc camp at the Central TX Airshow in May:

Nice,,,.. So this P1 you have to be looking at it and view the vid later where as the P2 and P3 the live vid and sound is on an Iphone at the controller.

How high was the drone flying and could it be heard from the ground?

How far away from the controller can it fly?

Shop online and look for the best deals. That's what I did.

I have seen countless videos made by individuals far more knowledgable than I. Check the links below. Jim Bowers focuses more in the drones. Mitch Bergsma focuses more on GoPros but he has many great videos on how to video your flights. I have learned a lot from both of them.

In that vid the drone was only 50-60’ above ground (I was fighting a fairly strong breeze too). You can still hear it when it’s upward of 100’ and I haven’t taken it much higher. The GoPro Iphone app runs on the same channel as the Phantom I controller so you can only use 1 at a time. The Phantom II and III have their own built in camera so you can do 1st person flying without interfering with the drone controls. I’m not positive but I belive the II and III also have a built in camera gimble so the video is much smoother as well.
