Cruz Wants to Stir Up a Grassroots Tsunami Against the Washington Cartel

In the wake of a surprising Senate floor speech Friday in which he accused Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) — and fellow party member — of lying, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz only has been dialing things up.

During an rare interview with conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh later that day, Cruz explained why he tore into McConnell in front of TV cameras and fellow lawmakers — and discussed his aim to stir up a “grassroots tsunami” that he hopes will level Washington’s establishment politics.

“Today the Senate took up the Export-Import Bank, a classic example of cronyism and corporate welfare,” Cruz told Limbaugh. “The leader of Senate Republicans, Mitch McConnell, went to the floor and demonstrated that he had lied both to the American people and also to every Republican senator, including me. Back when we were having the fight over trade promotion authority, I asked Mitch McConnell directly if he had cut a deal to reauthorize this cronyism and corporate welfare in order to try to get the votes, and he looked at me, he looked at all 54 Republican senators, and he said flat-out, ‘There is no deal. There is no deal. There is no deal.’”

Which is what led to his stirring speech on the Senate floor — but the 2016 presidential candidate said he’s not stopping there.

Cruz explained that the “Washington cartel,” which he said is behind such deals that ultimately benefit “a handful of giant corporations” and drain taxpayers’ pockets, is an ugly outgrowth of establishment politics on both sides of the aisle.

“It’s career politicians in both parties who get in bed with lobbyists and special interests,” Cruz said. “It’s why we’re bankrupting our kids and grandkids.”

. The senator noted as much in an email blast to supporters Saturday, saying that “today we have government of the lobbyists, by the lobbyists, and for the lobbyists.”

Cruz told Limbaugh there’s mounting frustration among voters — particularly those who put their trust in GOP office holders — because the Republican majority is looking nothing like one.

“We see so many campaign conservatives that pretend to be conservative on the campaign trail but they don’t govern according to what they promised us on the campaign trail,” he added.

Cruz then noted what he believes it will take to do away with the Washington cartel, pointing to an iconic American president.

“In 1980 the Reagan revolution came from the American people,” Cruz told Limbaugh. “Remember, Reagan, a lot of people forget, he took on the Washington cartel. He primaried Gerald Ford. You want to tick off Republican leadership, come within an inch of defeating the incumbent Republican president. The Reagan revolution came from the grassroots.”

Cruz noted that “the only way we can break this, the only way we can get leaders to actually stand for conservative principles, is if there’s a grassroots tsunami.”

Trump should get in this, help Cruz and therefore help us to expose these tyrants.

Yes. Cruz is seemingly out there alone. Some backup would be a plus. God Bless Cruz.

What makes you think that Trump is not supporting Cruz on this? I figure when my net worth gets to $10B I can start advising Donald Trump on what to do. ;-)

Cruz Wants to Stir Up a Grassroots Tsunami Against the Washington Cartel

OK by me, and it's a fairly accurate description, as well.

For those monitoring the Sunday Talk Shows it would be nice if you posted any coverage of the Friday Historical Cruz Speech.

My expectation: NONE.

Between Trump and Cruz with their plain talk and attacks on the DC establishment, I'm starting to have some hope. Doubt Trump's baggage will get him the GOP nomination, but ya gotta love his in their face messaging.

Some people on this board see him as a distraction. I see him as someone who is talking plain commonsense to open the issues for even the LIV. Cruz is the true debater and the smartest guy in the room and recognizes Trump taking no prisoners style is building momentum for conservative causes.

I still lean towards a Walker/Cruz ticket. Walker has the executive experience of turning his State around; Cruz has the skills to shut down Hillary/Sanders in any debate.

This is getting interesting as long as Trump doesn't step on his d*ck, and can blow off the obvious baggage he has.

Bottom line: Anyone who can get this much MSM face time and make socialist heads explode is okay by me.

He already has. I think Cruz is behind this curve. Cruz is acting like he’s just discovered it. Trump has been talking about it for some time only saying it’s just DC business as usual.

Ted Cruz has been exposing the Washington Cartel for a while now. You haven't noticed until now.

Are we seriously going to start hurling insults and snide remarks every time we disagree? I thought we'd run that strategy into the ground last primary season.

Me too. Between the two, I prefer Cruz. He makes a lot of good points. But he comes across as just another news show talking head. That's not a dig; 99% of all politicians are like that.

On the other hand, Trump comes out swinging, brash and bold, almost over the top. Middle America is truly desperate for that kind of leadership. It's a shame Cruz didn't think of that approach first.

Its what I don’t get about the fixation with Trump.

He says what informed people have known for a long time and his followers act as if a messianic figure has revealed some great truth.

Ted Cruz has been fighting this fight since before he was a nationally known figure. In the Medellín v. Texas case he took on and defeated both the DC establishment and international establishment as well as gaining justice for the victims of a murdering illegal alien.

Informed people are too small of a voting bloc. He has the capability to reach the Low-Info voter in a way that no other Republican can.

You don’t have to support Cruz or Trump to appreciate what they are doing.

When is the last time there were two candidates for President who took on both major political parties and the media while running as Republicans?

Think about that.

If you support Cruz, as I currently do, you see that Trump is making Cruz issues popular with the moderate middle(the old Moral Majority and Reagan Democrats, among others).

At the same time, Cruz is legitimizing Trump’s candidacy with his support and praise for the positions Trump is taking, particularly on border security and illegal aliens and unlawful immigration.

The dynamic between the two men is an interesting one, and well worth watching and encouraging. We may well be witnessing the building of a powerful coalition.

I think the Tigers’ recent woes must be getting to you. FYI I am for Cruz, but I like how Trump is shaking things up in the Republican party, and I think in the end, he is helping Cruz.

Trump is out there all by himself too and showing everyone how it is done. I am amazed that the other candidates are getting their clocks cleaned and they still are not taking Trump seriously .

As long as they are not taking this competitor seriously, he will take up all the market share. Trump views what he is doing as taking over a market and selling into that market. Trump probably cannot believe his competition does not understand this.

Cruz needs to emulate Trump and rise in the polls. Right now he is stuck in the mud and better do something quickly to rise or he will never make any progress.

American love a winner and no matter how qualified Cruz is he better start showing he knows how to win or he become a statistic.

Remember this case.

Ted Cruz led 31 states in District of Columbia v. Heller where the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a ban on firearms in a 5-4 landmark decision.

Tend to agree with your comment. However, Trump is a junk yard dog and Cruz is a statesman. Who gets the attention in our Kartrashian society? I'm glad Trump is so out-spoken. He may be getting a lot of flack, but the MSM just can't ignore him. He's espousing in no uncertain terms what conservatives have been trying to promote through their gentleman rhetoric.

Keep it up Trump...blast them all! Just don't go third party which would kill our chances for a conservative President. Remember, if it weren't for Perot, we would not have had the Clintons.
