I am hoping FReepers can help me out here, because I am having a difficult time understanding the reaction to the recently released videos regarding Planned Parenthood selling body parts.
Pro-life people have been showing pictures of what happens at abortions for decades, and yet none of those pictures have ever produced the kind of reaction that the current videos are producing. Why is that?
Is it because money is being made? Is it because a specific location is targeted? Is it because of the macabre sort of science-fiction aspect of body parts being bought and sold? Is it because the whole thing stinks of corruption?
Everything about the abortion business has been disgusting from the beginning. None of this has been a secret. I'm sure there are many women who support abortion because they've had one, or want the option of having one. But that's been the same all along. WHAT, specifically, is it about these videos that's touching a nerve?
It's important to find out, because that's the key to ending legal abortion. IMHO.
I have to go to bed now and won't be able to respond until tomorrow, but I would be very interested in any opinions.

Yes, yes, yes and yes.
Everything about it is disgusting.
However, in the current context, people see it as "harvesting" human body parts for profit and not caring that babies are killed by the process -- people see it as a big deal.
“It’s only a clump of cells and is a hard emotional choice for any woman to make.”
Versus
“These are human body parts we are selling and I want a Lamborghini so I will negotiate a good price.”
One of these is a series of lies told to get people to support them.
It’s the money son, liberals don’t care about the life.

Add to that that these videos are identifying the players and are shown gorging themselves on food as they are talking about butchering perfectly well formed babies. One of the PP players is vying to get a Lamborghini off the sale of butchered baby parts. There is nothing left to doubt.
Before, just showing pictures of abortions did not personalize the gruesome procedures down to the last detail. As leery as people are there is always a doubt that the pictures have been doctored or made up. This on the other hand is a series of videos where everyone is identified in context and there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that PP is a scam as Palin says to make billions by butchering babies for profit.
Some people need visual proof. We have been lied to for so long by the media, science, politicians. Some just need a ‘baseball upside the head of truth’ for it to sink in.
Mine was with my first ultrasound. I knew I had been lied to.
I think it has to do with the coldness, and callousness of the PP employees discussing these acts that is opening peoples eyes.
They used the mantra of “We know it’s a hard choice, and we council these women” for years.
Now people are being shown the lie of that mantra, and that simply put these people are soulless.
They have no concern for human life, and as a person who disagrees with them, they would have no problem killing you, and harvesting your body parts.
That’s what’s slapping people in the face.

I think people like to think of it as a magic trick where voila, the pregnancy is gone without a trace.
This brings home what it is.
And the vampiric nature of the executives.

Images of “technicians” going through trays of chopped up human babies with tweezers to identify “5 Star” kidneys that can help the Director get her Lamborghini. Abortion is horrible enough, but the level of this monstrous evil is off all charts.
If an ideology can do these things to unborn babies for a profit, it’s not much of a stretch to guess what they will do to their enemies who are already born and grown up when they obtain absolute power. We’ve seen it before.
Then ultrasound happened.
Then the argument started to shift from being a "clump of tissue" to being a purely utilitarian one: the mother's life is worth more (has more utility) than the baby's; therefore, the mother should be able to dispose of the non-useful life if it is inconvenient.
Note: this same argument has also compromised those who are "pro life" but who allow exceptions for fetal abnormality, incest, or the health of the mother. [If you question that logic, just ask one of them if they'd support the termination of a 5 year old who had a birth defect, a 5 year old that was the result of an incestuous union, or a 5 year old that drove his mother to drink]
Note that many or most of us have been trained from our youths to accept utilitarianism as a valid and good value system. We do that through the media lionizing celebreties, through advertising campaigns, and even through mental programming as a part of school exercises.
As an example, consider the "lifeboat exercise". You have a number (x) of people in a lifeboat designed to hold only a fraction of the amount. If all (x) people stay on the lifeboat, the boat will swamp and all will die. The students are given brief bios of the passengers and must work together in a group to solve which of the passengers should be thrown overboard so that the remaining ones can live. The situation exposed by these videos takes utiltarianism and throws it in the face of the viewer: not only is the mother's life worth more than the baby's, the abortionists try to monetize the baby by selling his/her body parts as commodities on the open market.
Now, what to do:
If you read Roe v Wade, you will see that the basic rationale for the Court making its decision is that they were "unable" to find a precedent granting the status of "personhood" to the baby prior to birth. The mother, a person for the purpose of the law, has civil rights. The baby, who is not a "person" for the purpose of the law, does not have civil rights and is, for the purposes of the law, property. You can't violate the rights of property...property has no rights. Persons do.
Therefore, the way to resolve this is in one of two ways:
In light of the scandals shown by these videos, this would be an ideal time to do so.
I just checked the response to this thread before turning off the lights.....I understand what you and others are saying. That the videos personalize this. But what about the many speaking engagements where people have relayed their experiences with abortion and planned parenthood? The women who have worked for them and then realized what was going on? NONE of those seems to have gotten any traction, as informative and convincing as they are. WHY, all of a sudden, are people seeing these videos, listening to them, and REACTING? It’s very unusual, after people have been working for years, in various ways, to get this message out. It’s just perplexing how all of a sudden people are hearing and listening.......... Maybe the time is just right, and people feel free to question.....
The ghoul-lawyers are going to want to intepret the word "children" as young of a certain age. It might be better to call that "Human offspring, progeny, or children of any age, ante partum, in partu et post partum,, ..."

Sadly, you're correct.
A 94 year old Nazi camp guard was just sentenced to 4 years of prison, for being a guard. As a guard he was found guilty as an accessory to 300,000 murders. Why is justice so important for him 75 years after the crime? Because we, the human race, claim to highly value human life.
People wonder how humans could get to the point of mistreating their fellow humans the way they did in the Nazi death camps. “This is how” - that is what I thought when I watch that lady Doctor drink wine and eat salad while talking about selling specific aborted baby body parts like hearts, livers, heads, lungs.
The other is, I am not squeamish, but that first video literally turned my stomach.
