In my brother's case of Gillian Barre, the cost (over $100,000) was far less to him and the insurance company than risks of spending more than a year paralyzed and on a ventilator. Which is my point. Who gets to put a price tag on this? Yes it was an expensive procedure. But the alternative could have been loss of limb or even death.
