A group of young fishermen have captured an incredible selfie with a whale after it swam up and seemed to ask them for help removing plastic bags caught in its mouth. The friendly whale nudged their boat as it made a surprise appearance in Middle Harbour, north of Sydney. The men soon noticed the whale, which circled the boat and swam underneath it, was asking for help and pulled out rubbish bags and fishing lines stuck in its mouth. Michael Riggio,17, took selfie snaps while his friend, Ivan Iskenderian, stretched over the boat to help the whale.

Great story but couldn't the person who wrote the article identify his subject as something other than 'the whale' or 'the mammal'?

There are more than a few species of cetaceans. This one is a Right Whale.

Admittedly I’m predisposed to mood swings, but the other day there was a horrible story about abuse to a dog that produced tears of rage, now my eyes are a bit blurry that whales may think we’re worth a damme :)

I’m certainly not an animal rights guy and I hunt as well but I do believe there are certain groups of animals that, based on their intelligence, should be protected regardless of their numbers. Cetaceans and primates mostly.
