Oh my.
Ping for your list. . . seems even turning off stuff doesn’t stop Windows10 from calling home to Microsoft. . . per Ars Technica
Oh mine, too. . .
Oh mine, too. . .
Now how did THAT happen???
How
did
what happen?
Just ask Cortana to search for ISIS, Jihad, Muslim, Army bases, Washington D.C....then you’ll find out how private it is.
I posted my comment #2 immediately after you posted the thread... then I went to read the Ars Technica article.
It's worth a ping to my list... I'll do it in a couple of minutes... Thanks for the heads-up!
Yea, it leaks over the internet all over the place. There are multiple ‘settings’ that will conflict and err on the side of transmit to Microsoft.
I did a clean install on another disk and uninstalled the upgrade on my original disk. Twice, with nothing installed other than windows and chrome I’ve had two BSOD and when rebooted it reset my local login to require Microsoft’s livelink password.
I like the interface. It’s a pain though to stumble through looking for things like control panel, but you can setup shortcuts to it once you find it.
Perhaps Cortana can outdo Siri and print out the info stored on Hitlery’s private server in the barn or wherever.
I do note that what Ars Technica is complaining about seems pretty marginal in terms of privacy breeches. This isn't so much a "OMG LOOK WHAT IT'S SENDING" as it is "GEEZ, CAN'T IT JUST SHUT UP?"
No wonder it’s free. You pay for it with your privacy.
Interesting. As a lifelong mac user, I became aware of the problem with MS Word for Mac 2011, which is required after iOS7; and instantly realized Microsoft was aware of what I was doing online.
Problem is, Mac Pages most likely does the same thing. What do you think?
Privacy settings are not OFF when you slide them to OFF.
Microsoft as described in the article will find a way to get online when the connections are blocked. Just like spyware. Hackers will learn from Microsoft and get on your pc and turn on your camera and microphone and on and on.
Sony brought us rootkits and hackers have been using them ever since.
Can we install a firewall between your router and computer to block the connections?
Pages files are encrypted. The Pages files are shared through your iCloud account but Apple can't see them. Apple doesn't have your key. Only you have the key.
