NOFX - NO HIPPIES NO EXCEPTIONS (Kicks Out Tiedied Fan)
TMZ ^ | 8/18

Posted on 08/18/2015 3:57:52 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Fat Mike doesn’t want hippies to use the side door at NOFX concerts … he doesn’t want them to come at all because the punk rockers have a very strict NO HIPPIE policy, as one guy found out the hard way.

The lead singer stopped a concert in Halifax, Nova Scotia last week and offered an old dude decked out in tie-dye $100 to leave, because his Grateful Dead t-shirt was ruining his mojo.

Fat Mike, who's even penned a track called "It's My Job to Keep Punk Rock Elite," tells TMZ he'd rather "listen to Dick Cheney play guitar than Jerry Garcia."

He says, "Punk rock started because of those terrible dinosaur bands playing 8 minute terrible songs. The Ramones showed the world what rock 'n' roll is supposed to sound like."

Fat Mike ended up giving the hippie $20 to take the shirt off during the concert. And for safe measure, Fat Mike kept it.

Gotta hand it to the fan… wearing a tie-dye t-shirt to a NOFX show ... anarchy in its own right.

Anyone who thinks the ramones are what rock and roll is supposed to sound like has serious issues.

NOFX is still around? Wow.

Love the line about rather hearing Dick Cheney play guitar. I know a lot of folks love The Grateful Dead, and more power to them. But I just have never gotten into them, or Phish.

As a veteran of the original late 70’s early 80’s NY Punk scene who played at both CBGB and Max’s Kansas City among others, this guy is no punk. Maybe his parents were but he seems just like a poser. We never had a problem with hippies really but we hated disco people.

It’s a sure thing that not all older music was good.

I’d rather slam my pecker in a sliding glass door than listen to an hour of the “Sex Pistols”.

Give me “The Clash” any day.

Love the NOFX sound. “Linoleum” is a masterpiece... Sadly, NOFX politics make it a bit like eating the perfect New York City shawarama... Right next to a wet dumpster in August.

Back in my college days I spent a long weekend “camping” in the mountains of Western Maryland with a group of friends who were Dead fans. We had all of the “accoutrements”, if you know what I mean, and that is where I learned to hate the Grateful Dead. They played their music the whole fricking time. It was enough for a lifetime...

See even Punk Rockers get to decide who they let in, why not a nation state?

Not the NY scene - although I can understand that from the UK scene. As bad as things were because of Carter, they were really grim when Thatcher was turning the UK around since they had been socialists for decades rather than having 4 years of the peanut brain. We were all pretty open to other groups, not that we hung out with them but we had Hell’s Angels who came to our gigs and hung out with them at after hours club gigs. Pretty much anyone was welcome at least in the early days. Things did change later on though when more hardcore and skinhead bands started coming out.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sadly, for every "Linoleum," there's a "You're Wrong" or three....

I'm not familiar with Fat Mike or NOFX. Maybe I should go listen to their music so I can talk about how bad it sucks.

Nah...

Jerry Garcia was a pioneer in electric stage guitar setups. One of his custom stage guitars sold for close to a million dollars (the colts crazy owner irsay paid over 900K for "tiger" at auction if I recall). I doubt fat mike and co. have that much cash and assets between them.

That said, a dude wearing tie-dye at punk show is asking for it. Possibly a troll.

I used to work with the NOFX drummer’s mom. She was very attractive and very nice. I think he employed two accountants.

Furthermore, this fat man guy should go talk to the guys from black flag (Henry Rollins) and tell them that the grateful dead suck. They were all fans and black flag is pretty damn “punk rock” last time I checked.
