Now that Obama has largely fulfilled his objective putting America on a trajectory of irreversible decline, it's time to assess when America was at its greatest. Was it 1945, the year America won WW2, or perhaps 1969 with the Moon landing? Or perhaps a year in the 1950s.
I wasn't quite a young man then, but I certainly loved living in Southern California at that time. The one big drawback is that the smog at that time was much worse than it is today.
In the last half of 1962, the USC Trojans went undefeated to win the National Championship. Unfortunately, the LA Dodgers couldn't get past the Frisco Jints to win the NL Pennant.
The Reagan years in the 80s were good for the nation bad for the oilfield so not good for our house.
I don’t remember the post war years. The late 50s and early 60s were relatively plain years of calm and simple pleasures.
The mid and late 60s were civil rights and I remember the family trips were sometimes tense in the south. DC in ‘66 was tense.
The 70s were marked by gas lines and a shock to our system. There was the agonizing end of Vietnam. By ‘76 things were looking up a bit. The high inflation period seemed like forever but it was not very long and Jimmah didn’t stay in office very long.
The Reagan years made almost all of us feel just downright good. It was like having your grandfather run the show. Bush I was a non-event.
Then came slick willy and hildebeast a couple of dope smoking hippie boomers and they did the part so well. Even though, I don’t think willy hated the country he is just sorry. Smart but basically trailer trash. Th 90s feel like a lost decade to me.
the 2000 period after 9/11 was actually not that horrible. The country almost united for just a little bit.
This decade has been the worst of my whole life and that includes the 80s in the oilfield when almost all of us lost a job and there was no daylight for us. Yes, this decade has been the worst.
The late 50s and early 60s were my best memory years.

Richard Nixon declined to shave on the afternoon of September 26, 1960. It has been going downhill ever since.
This song also came out in 1964:
Goldwater--The Citizens
2015 the first repub debate
Yup.....late 1950s was the high-point of American culture. Polio was cured. Space race started. Low crime. High education. Beautiful mix of good civic & private culture.
Well, up until 1991, you had a lot of people who didn’t think we could win a war (after Vietnam) and didn’t believe our military weapons systems worked. The Gulf War dispelled them of that notion. Also, the Soviet Union dissolved by the end of that year.
What I recall is that after Gulf War I, there was a sense for about a year that America (as the sole superpower) could do anything it wanted. Didn’t last long, but it was there and was good while it lasted.
2017, under President Trump.
1973. When the remaining scheduled moon landings were cancelled, I knew something was wrong. We could not afford the Vietnam War, LBJ’s Great Society and the space program all at the same time. Then we suffered the oil embargo.
1964 when the first Mustang was built.
I would have to agree with you as I was born in September 1961. :>
I agree. 1957 to be exact.
2019—3rd year of Trumps rule—America prosperious, at peace, and on the rise. A new age of art and culture, wealth and power.
