[[Static electricity hooking it up?
Capacitor dried out? *]]

Could be- it seems something is causing the battery to drain- because when the computer eventually does start again, the time and date are wrong and I have to reset it in the bios- that would indicate something happening to battery- even though it’s a new battery

[[Try a motherboard. I doubt if I have one, I got rid of most of my parts when I moved here, or I’d offer to dig one out...]]

Thanks for the offer- mobos are so cheap these days (the older ones anyways) that I can get a LGA 1150 or so for about $40-$60. or a core 2 duo for even less- which I’ll probably do because i’ll need the chip as well- cooler too-

That’s probably the way to go.

I’ve been wondering about the battery draining too, no explanation for it...A new battery should last several years, the only other reason it would lose time and date I know of is something shorting a reset jumper.

[[the only other reason it would lose time and date I know of is something shorting a reset jumper.]]

I’ll check for that- could be something causing that-

(I did reset Cmos (I think- followed online instrucitons- looked like the same type of jumper where you move it over to the second two pins=- then back again- I think it was the correct jumper- was right near the cmos battery- Don’t know if it did anything because nothing changed really- computer still randomly started, or wouldn’t start-)

But it just acts like battery draining (or something like cpu overheating) but with the constant resetting of clock and date, it seemd more like a battery issue to me- oh well- like oyu say- maybe there is a short somewhere- or m otherboard is wacked-

New refurbished is the way to go probably- been trying to figure this issue out for far too long now-
