Marines, I need some information. Will you help, please? Vanity

I need a little information, folks. I am not knowledgeable about fire arms. But what is NOW the official U.S. Marine side arm. Is it the Beretta 9? Was it the Glock 9 or Glock 18? Was it EVER the Glock?

If it used to be the Glock, when did the change come about?

Thanks, folks. I'd really appreciate your help. And, by the way, no, I am not asking because I want to buy one.

(In Army ROTC, I was still getting uniform demerits by the beginning of the second semester. Do you think a responsible person would sell one to me? I doubt it.)

" . . . you know, really stands for “Remedial Officer Training Course”.

Well, I was never going to make the service a career, and I don't think I could have gotten in, anyway. (Too many high school sports injuries. I was attending a land grant university, so ROTC was a requirement.

With all due respect to the cadet officers who eventually went on with their army careers, I do know that about a half-dozen of them were KIA in Vietnam. God bless them.

A Marine friend of mine tested the Glock 18.

I do not know if they ever bought any.

I read at the time that SIG actually won’t he competition but both Sig and Beretta finished the competitions acceptable. Sig wanted more for the magazines and accessories. Beretta agreed to the lower price and we got he M9. I own both and shoot well with either one.

My bone stock 1944 vintage Remington Rand 1911A1 is my favorite. 71 years young and shoots like a dream.

Very nice pistol there.

You cannot beat the ol timers.

And they will not let you down.

I didn’t know that part of the story. Thanks for the info. I didn’t mean to say that I didn’t like the Baretta...I loved it over my antique USMC issue 1911. I just like my SIG better...I like the weight and balance, it fits my hand perfectly and I shoot better with it than any other handgun that I own. I prefer .40 S&W over the 9mm also...maybe I will pick up a Baretta in that caliber on your recommendation.

I hear you. I was in the Army went they went to the M9 and our qualifications scores went way up. The sights on the M9 were much better than the pitiful sights on the military M1911 for one thing. The military 1911s were also pretty much worn out by the late early 1980s. I really like my P226, it is my favorite handgun and got me hooked on SIGs. Every time I take people to the range, that is the gun that almost all of them like and shoot the best. I also like the 226 better than the Beretta 92. That or my P229 is what I carry most of the time. I just meant that I shoot well with both and would not feel bad if I had to choose either one to carry with me. They are both easy to shoot well and fast and I have never had a FTF with either.
