I'm directing this to fellow Freepers out there that are at this point in time:
1. Totally against Trump 2. Considering Trump 3. Warming up to Trump 4. Willing to Stump for Trump
This is about my evolution. When I heard Trump had announced, I was actually angry. I was basically for Cruz, and very much so, but wanting to hear from Walker.
I figured that Trump was going to pull a Ross Perot on us, the most despised person in my mind. He ran against Bush, Sr for no other reason than out of spite for the man. He ushered in Clinton, who was a terrible president.
Then I listened to the man, and saw someone who is sincere about running. A man who speaks with clarity of thought and is not afraid to say how he feels. I realized in Alabama for sure, that he's not here to get another Clinton elected.
When you then focus on what he says, he says just about everything most of us here have been saying for years now. I dont give a rip what he said in the year's past. In the business world you get along and help along.
His books say the opposite.
Hes a very Pro-American, self made person who I would be proud to see as president. He embodies much of who we are as Americans ie, brash, confident, cocky, strong willed, loyal and consistent in honoring contracts.
But dont take my word for it. Read his book. This comes right out of it:
What people need to know is what the great conservative economist and writer Thomas Sowell taught us: in the world of economics, there are no such things as solutions, only tradeoffs. Every action has a consequence. Every decision has an upside and a downside. So you make smart decisions that minimize harm and maximize freedom. One of the many reasons why Im a conservative is because I believe in the so-called Law of Unintended Consequencesthe idea that, no matter how good governments intentions, when you start social engineering or messing around with the free market, more often than not you open a Pandoras box of negatives you didnt see coming.
So, I'm going to post some of the best from his latest book, Make America Great Again, in the days and weeks ahead, and ask other Freepers who are reading the book do so, also.
Mark Twain once said: If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you're mis-informed.
I think there's a lot of misinformation out there about the man. So, let's look at what the man says, and ask ourselves if we agree or disagree with the man.
1. I love America. And when you love something, you protect it passionatelyfiercely, even. We are the greatest country the world has ever known. I make no apologies for this country, my pride in it, or my desire to see us become strong and rich again. After all, wealth funds our freedom. But for too long weve been pushed around, used by other countries, and ill-served by politicians in Washington who measure their success by how rapidly they can expand the federal debt, and your tax burden, with their favorite government programs.

2. The damage that Democrats, weak Republicans, and this disaster of a president have inflicted on America has put us in a mess like weve never seen before in our lifetimes. To fix the problem weve got to be smart and get tough. Theres no time to waste.
Trump, Donald J. (2011-12-06). Time to Get Tough: Make America Great Again! (p. 8). Regnery Publishing. Kindle Edition.
3. When you do someone a favor, they say thank you. When you give someone a loan, they pay you back. And when a nation like the United States sacrifices thousands of lives of its own young servicemen and women and more than a trillion dollars to bring freedom to the people of Iraq, the leastthe absolute leastthe Iraqis should do is pick up the tab for their own liberation.

4. In June 2011, Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California visited Iraq and told Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki that he hoped Iraq would someday consider repaying America for all our sacrifices on Iraqs behalf. The Prime Ministers response was to have his press spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh, call up the U.S. embassy and say that they wanted the congressman to get out of their country and that his remarks were inappropriate.

5. Call me old school, but I believe in the old warriors credo that to the victor go the spoils. In other words, we dont fight a war, hand over the keys to people who hate us, and leave. We win a war, take the oil to repay the financial costs weve incurred, and in so doing, treat Iraq and everybody else fairly. As General Douglas MacArthur said, There is no substitute for victory. From the very beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, I believed we should have hammered out the repayment plan with the Iraqisthrough exiled Iraqi dissidentsbefore we launched the war and rid the people of Iraq of their murderous dictator, Saddam Hussein. And back then, there were a few smart people who agreed with me and said the same thing. One of them was the director of the Defense Departments Office of Net Assessment, Andrew Marshall. He recommended that oil revenues should be used to reduce the sticker price for occupation.1 Of course, that hasnt happened. Still, theres no reason we cant or shouldnt implement a cost-sharing arrangement with Iraq. Do not take no for an answer.

6. If our community organizer in chief would take the time to study the marketplace, he would know that over the past year, things like fruit, pasta, coffee, bacon, and lots of other foods have registered price spikes as high as 40 percent, and theres no end in sightin large part because of the price of oil, which has spiked transportation and fertilizer costs.6 Until we get this countrys lifebloodoilback down to reasonable rates, Americas economy will continue to slump, jobs wont get created, and American consumers will face ever-rising prices. We can talk all day about windmills, nuclear power, and solar, geothermal, and other alternative fuels. Im all for developing alternatives to oil, but thats for the long term. The fact is, right now and for the foreseeable future, the planet runs on oiland that means we need to get the price of a barrel of oil downway down, maybe even to $20 a barreland boy would our economy rock.

LOL! If that's the main point you got, you need to get your money back from the speed reading and comprehension class.
GO CRUZ!!! Keep it up Trump!
For those who see this and continue to "freeload" and who want their opinions to carry the weight of conviction:
“He will support all illegals only to readmit those he likes.”
That use to be the standard immigration protocol, before the nation lost its mind. He has described the kind he likes, which are the ones who can contribute to the country, not the ones who will need help. Read between the lines.
Admitting Mexicans under a tightly controlled work visa also used to be standard immigration protocol. No government subsidies, no pathways to citizenship.
The man is a buffoon, a narcissist, and every time he compares himself to Reagan, it makes me sick..
You were against him here on FR were you not? Sorry, if I am confusing you with somebody else. And not that you weren’t entitled to your opinion!
I notice his publisher is a conservative house.
Who cares who actually wrote them? Do you think that most books by famous people are written by themselves?
There is so much "editing and collaboration" that there is rarely a book 'written' by the author.
If you have to explain it with such a lengthy pist, maybe it’s not such a hot idea after all.
Alas, I have not heard any suggestion from either man or anyone else that the first thing the new Dictator, and that is what will be elected, must do is abolish the EPA and half a dozen other Agencies, and the next thing he must do is persuade the States to immediately call that Article 5 Convention and take back power from Washington. When those two things are accomplished he should resign after calling a new Election. Do I thank these things will happen? No, not really, but Trump is the only one who can make it all happen and I have to hope that he will do it.
Like Reagan did. Reagan coalition
President Reagan's Remarks to Harley-Davidson Company Employees in York, Pennsylvania
I am all for tariffs.
Completely so. Bring back American production.
We need to support American manufacturing again.
Smoot-Hawley was in another world. America dominated production at the time.
Now we’re buying everything imported.
“It is not that we hate the GOPe so much that we would vote for the devil if he put a curse on Mitch McConnell, ...”
I rather think it is that. If folks can’t understand who Trump is by what he has done, then conservatism in America is toast:

Peace,

Here’s my reasons, in order, for supporting Trump, warts and all:
1. The only one who wants to build a wall, patrol the border and DEPORT illegal scum that are tearing our country apart and setting us up for permanent socialist rule.
2. The only candidate who can completely dismantle political correctness. Cruz is pretty good at it too, but Trump can take this much further. PC is what keeps all conservative thought from being consumed by the mainstream. Students today can complete college and never hear a conservative point of view unless it is fed to them by a liberal who skews it.
3. The economy, taxes and military. I think he will shine here.
A conservative calling for tariffs thinks the rest of the world is at fault for our economic problems because they sell too much to America. Well they can sell to America because their costs of production are lower and that conservative wants revenge, not prosperity. Labor is only one of those costs and not the most significant one. Subtracting the regulatory and tax burden is far more important. At least equalize that burden with the rest of the world and the American worker becomes again the most productive worker in the world and thus cheaper at higher wages i.e. more efficient, and jobs do not leave America any more. Remove the burden and we suck production and money out of the rest of the world and the boom will be greater than the Reagan Boom and will last until we self-flagellate by piling up the regulations and taxes again.
I thought tonight, no?
I disagree.
We currently run a 342 billion / year deficit with China, and that is still growing.
We buy everything from China.
Enough. Bring back jobs to America.
No, it’s Sowell who is not agreeing with Trump.
I was very skeptical of him at first. Now I’m onboard. I think he can and will win all 50 states. Yes, all 50 states. If he has Cruz or Carson as a running mate, this place is going to rock!
I thought one of his ideas was pretty good, and did not entail tariffs. We accept imports from other countries at the same level they accept exports from us. Right now Japan, China, Mexico, et al, are dumping outrageous amounts of their stuff on us, with very little allowed in from our Country.
He also advocates changes to our tax structure which will encourage repatriation of manufacturing back to America. JOBS. Gainfully employed Americans making good money and paying reasonable taxes.
NOt sure what you mean. I don’t think people have taken the time to read the man’s words. Thought I’d help in that regard.
