During second debate, did Jeb imply that Justice Roberts is being blackmailed?

Did Bush go down the Justice Roberts is compromised path, before back tracking?

I think he let the cat out of the bag.

I think it was Jeb. I know someone did, and Tapper started to pursue the statement, but back away from it, too.

OK just theoretical question..

What if it was true? Would that call into question all of his votes?

Would that be grounds for a re-hearing?

Would the blackmailers be prosecuted?

Jeb backpedaled on a couple of issues last night...he was weak, as usual.

Would this declaration be the final blow to the Jeb candidacy? The elites don’t like their laundry made public.

Everyone know it - no one must talk about it.

It’s the worst kept secret in DC along with Hillary’s lesbianism.

If so, then he is a weak man and by no means a patriot. All the more reason to have him impeached because for the good of the nation he will not resign.

Cruz brought a clear distinction to what his choices would have been based off what was known about them then. As he said, the establishment went looking for justices with as little of a paper trail that they could to make the confirmation process less contentious. Thomas was also in that vein, but a far stronger man than any of the establishment thought.

If a Republican wins in 2016 and he steps down for personal/health/reasons, it would be confirmation.

Bush remarks:

BUSH: John Roberts has made some really good decisions, for sure, but he did not have a proven, extensive record that would have made the clarity the important thing, and that’s what we need to do. And, I’m willing to fight for those nominees to make sure that they get passed. >>>You can’t do it the politically expedient way anymore.<<< This is the culture in Washington. You have to fight hard for these appointments. This is perhaps the most important thing that the next president will do.

To say ‘You can’t do it the politically expedient way anymore.’ says that someone has done something ‘the politically expedient way’ before - in connection with Roberts, what is this ‘politically expedient way?’

Too bad we don't have a GOP Speaker or senate Majority Leader in congress to investigate the possibility.

We've got Crybaby Johnny Boehner and Mitch "0bama's Bitch" instead - BOTH 0bama Republicrats.

I think it doesn’t come across in the transcript. I will try to find and post the video.

politically expedient is used in a lot of judicial articles (duckduckgo.com). I take it in context.

“As former state legislators who now serve in statewide office, Tim Keller and Hector Balderas have enjoyed impeccable reputations as committed public servants who have represented all the people of New Mexico with an eye towards doing what’s right and not what’s politically expedient.”

http://www.abqjournal.com/578912/opinion/dem-party-chairwoman-says-editorial-unfair-to-ag-auditor.html

definition:

‘Expedient politic advisable mean dictated by practical or prudent motives. expedient usually implies what is immediately advantageous without regard for ethics or consistent principles ‹a politically expedient decision›.

politic stresses judiciousness and tactical value but usually implies some lack of candor or sincerity ‹a politic show of interest›.

advisable applies to what is practical, prudent, or advantageous but lacks the derogatory implication of expedient and politic ‹sometimes it’s advisable to say nothing›’.

here’s a really good paper on how the current executive branch makes politically expedient decisions of INaction.

He is talking about the process of getting SCOTUS nominees past the Senate. It used to be that the opposition party would give due respect and consideration for the nominee. Now they fight tooth and nail. They look through every jot and tittle the nominee has ever written and every utterance he or she has ever made. That is what the Dems do, and then refuse to vote for the Republican President’s choice. Bush is saying, it is “easier” if there isn’t a huge record behind the nominee for the Dems to pick through, but at the same time, it is a chance you take with that nominee not being the conservative jurist one thought he/she was.

That is how I took what he is saying. I didn’t get “John Roberts is being blackmailed” out of that. I think that is a stretch.

We already know he's a weak man and by no means a patriot.

We also know that he is a stupid man, his credentials notwithstanding.
