Released on July 29, Windows 10 has reportedly surpassed the 100 million installs milestone, sometime last week.
Microsoft released the new operating system version as a free upgrade to Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users and saw the adoption rate spiking through the first few weeks. While sluggish in the later days, Windows 10 has finally passed the 100 million mark last week, according to sources. We already saw reports of the operating system reaching 75 million and then 81 million downloads earlier this month. Citing unnamed sources, reports are now claiming that the OS has finally reached the 100 million installation milestone, last week.
This is only a start for the company as Microsoft has just announced its partnership with Baidu, Chinese tech giant. By dropping its own Bing search engine and replacing it with Baidu in China, Microsoft aims to drive Windows 10 sales and offer a localized experience to the Chinese users. The Microsoft-Baidu partnership will definitely see the new operating system reaching more milestones in the coming months thanks to millions of Windows users in the country.
Additionally, Microsoft is expected to release first non-patch update to Windows 10 that will help the new operating system get more polished, stable and will also squash bugs and compatibility issues. Having some users staying away from the new Windows thanks to early troubles that have kept appearing since the release in July, the expected October update (earlier slated for November) could lure in this segment that has been waiting for smoother performance of the OS.
Success in China, updates to the operating system, and finally release of new products running Windows 10, including the highly anticipated Surface Pro 4, will drive the adoption rate even further for the Windows 10. Microsoft aims to bring Windows 10 to over 1 billion devices in the next three years. With 10% of that goal already achieved, Windows 10 is definitely off to a good start. The company is, however, yet to announce the 100 million installations milestone as its official statistics still list 75 million Windows 10 downloads. If reports are true, it wouldn’t take Redmond long to announce the new milestone this week.
It is free and automated plus it is on all new pc’s.
Try selling it separately and see how many installs you get.
Resisted so far with 7.
Once the rumored big fix in October is released, i will get around to downloading an .iso to burn a DVD and set up another hard drive to try it out.
I’ve had no problems, and it is an improvement on Win8.
I have a question for you Seek.
Is there a browser that does not use the Google Pref Cookie that is embedded on on today’s browsers? You can’t delete the cookie (unless you can figure out how to use SQLite Manager successfully. I am not that advanced a computer person to be honest.
The “cookies.sqlite” mystery has me baffled. These cookies do not show up in regular cookie folders and NSA is using them to track us (and google too).

If you haven't tried it yet, don't! Save yourself the frustrations. They have taken away all right click functions.
Edge, the internet browser for the noobs.
I would assume that’s a pretty good general concensus.. 8x is so bad anyone forced to use it will give 10 a try, but those on 7 are going to likely be vary wary...
For some reason, probably because their Mommy dressed them funny, some FReepers delight in exhibiting their IT ignorance by scaring other FReepers with dire warnings about the horror of upgrading.
When in reality, logic keeps on working. For instance, VW is in trouble. Firings, criminal charges, diving stock prices... And that is in Europe! Can you imagine the hullabaloo if a big American corporation did that? Oh My!
I use a car company as an example because most older Americans understand cars. Computers not so much, so rumors and fairy tales thrive in the absence of understanding.
Windows 10 is a really good operating system. It has delightful features, which if you have no idea about user interface design, seem to be magic. They are not magic, but a feature discussed by a team, discussed with corporate attorneys, and then put out for Beta testing before they ever get incorporated into the OS.
So still your nervous heart and upgrade. It is an enjoyable experience and you will be glad you did.
Translated, you screwed up and reflexively blame others instead of fixing the problem. You probably thought you were smarter than a team of software engineers and did not let the upgrade finish.
lol! This would be the first time in my life I have been accused of "IT ignorance". Funny!
I don't upgrade because I don't want to be a guinea pig for the Microsoft Corporation. Anyone, you included, should fell free to do so if that is your wish. To accuse me of "IT ignorance" accomplishes nothing but put your own ignorance on display. Good show.

Thanks to Swordmaker for the ping!!
Is it 100,000,000 "downloads" (which means nothing), or 100,000,000 "installs" (which counts re-installs and installs followed by roll-backs to 7 or 8.1), or 100,000,000 actual machines in use (which they... DO NOT MENTION)?
Microsoft has a history of brazenly lying about their sales, so the question is meaningful to ask.
With Vista, they counted as "Vista sales":
Might be legit, in use installations. Might not. I'll wait for the figures from the outfits that sample the web and tell how many people are actually using Windows 10 on the internet (virtually no one uses Win10 as a non-connected system). I'd like to see Microsoft make their goal of a billion devices. But I want to see them do it honestly this time.
Upgrading from 8.x is a terrific idea. If someone doesn't like 8.x, they probably will consider 10 an improvement. If they did like 8.x, they should absolutely love 10.
OTOH, those of us who are quite content with 7 may choose to stick with it at least for a while because 10 brings nothing to the table that makes up for the differences we don't much enjoy.
In my case, I've been using Windows continuously since the late 1980's. I've adjusted to every change in the interface, and at Win2K I found what I find to be the most productive and comfortable. So I really like the Classic interface, which is still available (with a bit of tweaking) with 7 but is impossible with 8.x and 10, even with the retro shell add-ons.
You are welcome to dismiss my choice as "no accounting for taste". But there are a lot of folks like me. Microsoft will be supporting 7 until 2020 because we will still be using it.

LOL. No, not that. I've been a system admin for over a decade and I was a computer systems design engineer for 30 years before that. Might want to keep an eye on your fingers, they're typing some foolish stuff. :-)
BTW you appear to be quite the Microsoft/Windows fan. I sincerely and heartily invite you to join the Windows Ping List. Interested?
Anyway, Dayglo, what is the MS ping list you are talking about? I dual boot Ubuntu server at home just for fun, I like all OS's even CP/M. I can teach them all. But this MS thing, I fail to see the purpose. Can you elucidate me, haha. Somehow I seem to fail at elucidating other FReepers, they are a recalcitrant bunch when it comes to computers.
Oh, and as you know, the Beta is over so there are no guinea pigs, this is the release version. An update, not patch, is just around the corner, I don’t know why, going on ten installs, no problems encountered. And two re-installs where the user got impatient. It seems flawless.
Yes, Norm, I'm sure whatever OS you're using is more secure than Windows 10. I'm completely certain that your Mac is completely invulnerable to exploits. I'm sure that any Linux box you use is 100% vulnerability-free. I'm sure that your Win7/8 machines are less secure than Windows 10.
Don't believe your own press, sir. You're a typical anti-MS troll with little proof to your assertions.
Simple thing. There are a lot of informal "ping lists" on the forum. Someone volunteers to maintain a list of FReepers interested in a given topic, and whenever a thread is posted on that topic, the person with the list does a comment post to everybody on the list so they get a chance to check out the thread.
Computer-wise, ShadowAce runs the "Tech" ping list and leans toward Linux/Unix topics; Swordmaker runs the Apple/Mac/iDevice list; ThunderSleeps runs the Android list; and I run the Windows/Microsoft list.
So really my offer to you is: If you would like to be pinged on threads with topics relating to Windows (and to a lesser degree Microsoft in general), let me know and I'll add you to my list. (OF course, same holds for ShadowAce, Swordmaker, and ThunderSleeps of course.
Incidentally, I'm on all of those lists, having gear and interests that fall into every category and then some. You can join as many, or as few, as you like.
Have a great day!
How odd. I never realized Apple built my win7 box, my old winxp box or my win95 or 3.11 boxes.
I assure you that had I known Windows was an Apple product I’d never have bought or used them!!! Oh the SHAME I FEEL!!!
So you’re admitting to using Microsoft products while bashing the latest iteration of their operating system as inherently unsafe? Meanwhile, it’s pretty common knowledge that older Microsoft operating systems are inherently unsafe due to their age and lack of patching. Why would you troll a Microsoft thread with anti-MS BS?
It's a lot like voting in an election, Normie. You only have a couple choices...and even then they slip you a bite of the apple!
