The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Tampa weather was great - some rain, but lots of sunshine too. Great seafood. The operation went well, and I didn't have to stay in the hospital over night.
Overnight, I have decreased my chances of having a stroke by 500% and will now be able to reverse osteoporosis by taking supplements - no need for the hard meds. Anything else is just a bonus in my book.
Have been sleeping like crazy - 20 years of sleep deprivation to make up for. LOL Thanks to every one for the best wishes and prayers. I guess I should have had someone else do the thread, as I was just too tired to do much and am still a bit tired.
I'll be trying to catch up this next week, along with preparing tax information. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
First!!!
what...no more cucumbers?
Good for you. Thanks for the picture. Very fall festive!
Glad everything went well.
I have the parts I need to fix Nanner’s steering. I’ll get that done tomorrow and be back to moving dirt.
Still getting tomatoes. Been having to water the fall greens. We go enough rain last night to knock the dust down, but not enough do any real good.
Do you know about Boston Marrow squash?
Still have the same potatoes, carrots, beets to dig up as last week. They are not going anywhere. I have been busy taking care of hubby. I did cut the grass yesterday!
All dead. Tomato plants are stalks. Zucchini, nada. Beans, zilch. My basil, which my lovely lives for, wilted. The only thing that has survived is a small rosemary plant and there is only so much rosemary chicken and potatoes I can handle.
Not sure what happened but the black thumb blew another season. I ask this almost every week. What can grow in South Texas in October? Is there a veggie that can survive San Antonio Oct-Dec weather?
Anyway, hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
EQ
Thanks.
We’ve been a bit distracted, but I hope to get some winter wheat in after the first frost, and I may just do indoor greens this winter.
It’s 94 degrees in Phoenix today and my Brazilian Pepper tree has flies all over it. It was full of bees but I guess they finished.
Is that normal?
Praise God!!
Pulled up potatoes last week and grabbed the last of the peppers. Fall lettuce, kale and spinach is starting to come up.
Will clean out the other gardens this weekend, and move the chicken coop and run closer to the house for the winter.
Need to wait until the first frost (maybe a week or so) to plant our garlic - which means it's also time to finish splitting and stacking fire wood....
I’m glad you’re doing well.
Hubby got our taters dug right before we left. They are still sitting in 5 gallon buckets in the middle of the kitchen floor. Not sure how I’m going to store them.
Corn and potatoes was the best crop this year, and I’m on a low carb diet. Think I’ll cheat a bit now and then. LOL
Did you ever have your soil tested?
I don’t know anything about bees except that they pollinate stuff, have stingers, and are dying off for some reason.
Garlic. Glad you mentioned that. I hadn’t even thought about it. I’ll need to clear a space soon - but I’m taking it easy for at least another week.
