South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier told his players and coaches Monday night that he is retiring immediately, sources told ESPN.com.

Well Michigan is the team of my youth, but I still have to stick with the alma mater, although I am thrilled to see Michigan doing so well.
And I will definitely be there when Florida and Michigan kick off the 2017 season here in Dallas.

He did it with the team in mind. Recruiting without a long term head coach would hurt the program. The season is basically over so bow out and get a new coach while recruiting can still be saved.

I had one of my UF contacts tell me that South Carolina is actually interested in bringing in Muschamp as the next head coach.
I responded, no way could they possibly be that stupid.
Steve Spurrier came to Carolina preaching PC inclusivity or some such. Never liked him from that moment.
For the last three seasons USC’s defense has hid out in the locker room & it shows (this last game with LSU was sort of an exception).
IMO he will not be missed. Retiring before the end of the season? “You people don’t deserve someone as admirable as me! I’m out of here!”
