Pat Woodell, who played Bobbi Jo on 1960s CBS sitcom “Petticoat Junction,” died Sept. 29 in Fallbrook, Calif., according to the LA Times. She was 71.

Woodell played one of the Bradley sisters on “Petticoat Junction” from its debut in 1963-65, starring opposite Linda Kaye Henning as Betty Jo and Jeannine Riley as Billie Jo. Bea Benaderet played their mother Kate Bradley, the owner of the Shady Rest Hotel.

Woodell left the season after season two, and was replaced by Lori Saunders. The show, created by Hennings’ parents Paul and Ruth Henning, aired on CBS until April 1970.

Woodell was also a singer, performing with “Petticoat Junction” sisters on the show. She also performed on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1964 with group The Ladybugs.

It’s timeless comedy that holds up even after 40 years - not like the crap now

Sigh... Neither Uncle Joe nor Fred Mertz look as old to me as they used to...

I've noticed that about LOTS of people I know, especially when I find out how old they are.

It's like when I was watching an episode of Gulligan's Island with my sister. She commented that the Skipper wasn't really as heavy as she thought him to be back in the day.

In those days, he was considered really heavy. Now he's about average.

Says a lot about our society.

Hooterville’s location is a vexing thing. It is apparently equidistant from Beverly Hills and the 212 and within driving distance of both in questionable vehicles.

Dang it. She was gorgeous.

When I was young, I would dream about swimming in that water tower and then.....well....nobody cared about the train.

Lori Saunders in the middle in the water tower was the best Bradley girl.

Ahh, for the good old days of wholesome TV, fit for the whole family. A bit corny at times, but kosher...

The "Rural Purge" was a major factor in the decline of American society.

I read about the rural purge. Took away a lot of the good stuff and paved they way for the commie-led perversion.

I don’t recall any personal ugliness. She had a misdiagnosis with her health, turned out she had stage 4 brain cancer, died shortly after. Dreadful.

I can’t imagine those shows lasting much longer than they did past 1970, purge or not. Two years tops for some (such as “Mayberry RFD”, which really ceased to be after Griffith and Knotts left). Even “Gunsmoke”, which survived the initial purge, was running on fumes by the time it was cancelled in 1975. Cancelling “Hee Haw” was dumb, since it had barely gotten started and ended up being a huge hit in syndication.

Even so, the rapid social decline was already occurring even as those shows still aired (by 1965).

Some of the other Petticoat Junction women will be appearing at a convention this month in New Jersey. Abe Vigoda is planning to be there.

They also have the girls of Hee Haw

Petticoat Junction was actually cancelled a year before the rural purge (1970). Mayberry RFD was just a faint shadow of The Andy Griffth Show’s glory. And Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres were running out of ratings gas. Can’t see what social good it would have done to keep them around longer. In retrospect, the Norman Lear shows were poisonous (except perhaps for Sandford and Son) but if cancelling the cornball stuff made way for the amazing Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Bob Newhart Show, then it wasn’t a bad thing in retrospect.

I think it was the canceling of the Westerns (too violent) that was an even bigger factor.

Well the Libs (particularly Norman Lear)
took over SeeBS. They dumped all country fare and gave us All in the Family, Maude and The Jeffersons.
