STUDY: MORE THAN TWO-THIRDS OF PATIENTS ON ANTI-DEPRESSANTS NOT DEPRESSED
Breitbart ^ | 23 Oct 15 | Dr. Susan Berry

Posted on 10/24/2015 1:32:01 PM PDT by Signalman

A new study shows that more than two-thirds — some 69 percent – of patients using anti-depressants do not actually meet the criteria for depressive disorder.

The study, which appears in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, finds that many individuals who are prescribed and take antidepressant medications may not actually have a depressive disorder, and that such drugs are often used by patients who do not meet the diagnostic criteria of depression.

According to the research, among the users of antidepressant medications, 69 percent never met the diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD), and 38 percent also never met those for obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, or generalized anxiety disorder – for which the antidepressant medications are sometimes prescribed.

Other factors, however, unrelated to depression, were found to be associated with the use of antidepressants.

“Caucasian ethnicity, recent or current physical problems (eg, loss of bladder control, hypertension, and back pain), and recent mental health facility visits were associated with antidepressant use in addition to mental disorders,” say the researchers.

As Breitbart News previously reported, psychiatrist Dr. Julie Holland penned an op-ed in the New York Times earlier this year in which she cited that at least one of every four women in America is now on psychiatric medication, as opposed to one of every seven men, a situation Holland described as “insane.”

Holland observed that women are emotional and sensitive by design – qualities that are generally “a sign of health, not disease.”

According to Holland, “women are nearly twice as likely to receive a diagnosis of depression or anxiety disorder than men are.” Her concern is that the uptick in prescriptions for psychiatric medications is “creating a new normal, encouraging more women to seek chemical assistance.”

Take the reason for the depression away and you won’t need an anti-depressant.

Possibly you may be right about the Fish oil and such.

I think a lot of it is just plain making a Choice to be happy in the day. Many women like to complain about everything and about their ills. Then add to that their dogs depressions.

Ok, maybe here is another angle. Could be that a lot of women like to play these games, so they don't have to work, not even do their own housework. Got their men under control for sure and men like to be needed, lol

Doctors don’t care about their patients. They’ll do anything to send them quickly and happily out the door so they can get to the next wallet padding patient.

“a lot of women like to play these games”

Oh, hell yeah-my MIL was one of those-not a day went by that she did not have some new complaint-she was not even adverse to injuring herself in some minor way to get her husband’s attention if all else failed, and she was out of antidepressants.

My husband said that before he moved out for college and the military she would drag him into the game, too. She was all excited when he and I married-thought since I was a social worker and case manager, she would have her own free person to listen to her whine any time she wanted-she was upset when I told her that counseling family was frowned upon-which is absolutely true...

they give these things out like candy, and push htem on patients like drug dealers- they pressure people into going on them

Why? So that they can put you on a ‘watch list’ for the upcoming ‘psychiatric requirements’ for gun ownership

Of course not, the antidepressents are also used to treat anxiety disorders.

So sorry about all that, not easy living with these kind of women. Not easy even knowing one, there are a lot in the Churches. Yes, there are. Seems every one of them always has something to go on the Prayer Chain. i.e.

i.e.: Prayer Request, need prayer my kitty is having her litter...........REALLY? Some of the stuff I see on the prayer request are simply SIMPLE or goes into the "that's life file"

Yes but that behavior has nothing to do with anxiety,or depression or psychotropic use.

My two cents. 1. A much more effective treatment for me is having Ramona, she is here now, clean my how every two weeks. She makes me stay on top of bills and paperwork. Costs 60 dollars a session, much less than scripts and shrink to prescribe them. 2. Other use for tricyclic antidepressants is neuropathy caused by diabetes and central nerve damage from pressure on nerves. I do think that is worth a try when symptoms or neuropathy are debilitating.

So this means that, on average, about 1 out of every 5 drivers on the road is on some kind of pyschotropic medication.
Beam me up Scotty.

Topic was anti depressant drugs which doesn’t even mention driving. Note my tag line

Neither the behaviors or the drug use/addiction are exactly healthy-and while my MIL certainly had issues with control-and she was depressed-attention getting behavior like that is certainly associated with emotional problems like depression, anxiety and many others-drug use rather than psychotherapy to confront the behaviors hands the person what they perceive as an instant solution, makes them believe they are “cured”, as long as they just keep popping the pills, and opens the door to addiction and other problems.

Many psychaitrists will write that scrip for psychotropic meds without an in-depth assessment of emotional health, just to keep the patient happy-it is why there are so many emotionally unstable people addicted to the stuff.

This comes from a mechanistic understanding of the human organism. “Man is a mass of electrical impulses and chemicals “. People with that primitive understanding of human nature try to solve human problems with chemicals or electrical currents.

it really is. I don't have many close friends, rofl. Nothing in common, and I don't understand their silliness.

My best friend, my daughter, we think the same.

Also why many vets are turning to med marijuana. Thing is, they should also get counseling so it is a temporary aid.

I have preferred men for best friends since I was about 11-still do-and always a non-sexual relationship. Both of my husbands were just fine with that. My coworkers are all men-I don’t have a lot in common with most women either-too many of them manipulate men-not a likeable trait.

A psychotherapist I know says that liberals would benefit from electroshock therapy with a 12 volt battery, used to smack them on the the head...
