Not soon enough for some I know! My USMC Infantry son and his buddies jumped on an old one, the crew chief was from the house next door to ours.

A nice reunion in Iraq, until smoke billowed from an overhead transmission!

The guys said, nice to see your pal, but we never want that bird again!

When asked the crew chief said 'no big deal'.

Heard a story about a guy who saw some fluid squirting out of a small hose in a ch53. Asked the crew chief if that leak was bad. Crew chief said it’s will be bad if it stops leaking.

Was in northern Minnesota one time. A big mosquito landed in a meadow and 8 grunts ran right up its ass before they realized it wasn’t a ‘53.
Swear it happened just like that,,,,

There was a saying in H-46 squadrons going on cruises, add 4 53’s to your squadron double your maintainence. They were pigs.

Way back when, I flew the old CH-53D. Great bird, but this new Kilo is awesome!

I’m not sure why it needs the tracks.

“This new helo will be capable of carrying 27,000 pounds –nearly three times the amount of its predecessor. It will be able to carry these massive loads over 110 nautical miles under challenging “hot and high” conditions.”

That 27K pound payload is for “hot and high” conditions. Sea level, cold day should be higher. The 53D payload was 16K, the 53E was 32K, IIRC.

“Ultimately, the Corps plans to have eight active duty squadrons, one training squadron, and one reserve squadron”.

How many helicopters are in a squadron?

Those guns are called the “Universal Persuader”, and the tracks are for driving Mussie enemies before us, and hearing the lamentations of their goats.

Squashing them with the tracks would save a lot of ammo.

I can see it is appropriate for disabled, other-abled, and special needs persons but just hope the lav offers a unisex / TV / TS / TG / transitioning friendly environment.
