A view of the statue's lighthouse, which would glow for up to 35 miles.

Harryhausen said this was his inspiration for Talos in "Jason and The Argonauts."

This sounds like a great idea, but the Greek government is in no position to fund it. And if its “crowdfunded” or funded from some other private source, it will be half built and then be in bankruptcy for years before it gets completed.

Oh, shiite. More of our taxpayer money being pissed away. Other than Homer and others from 2000-3000 years ago, is there any real proof this thing actually existed? If so, what happened to the origianal? Muzzies got it? OOPS, long before the Muzzies.

Muzzies did get it. Just from memory, the ruins were in place for many hundred of years. Muzzies bought it for scrap and carted it away on something like 800 camels.

Go ahead, rebuild the Colossus. We have already rebuilt another of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world- the Great Library of Alexandria, in the form of the Internet.

You could argue that the Lighthouse of Alexandria also, is rebuilt in the form of GPS and GLONASS infrastructure, as well.

Wow, the Greeks can both piss away their tax revenue AND create a beacon for ISIS with one action! America’s liberals surely envy Greece’s liberals.

A beacon for muslim invaders

Who, after the conquest, will tear it down as blasphemous.

Beacon or Bacon? Idea...perhaps they could load the idol with bacon and drop slabs on the Muslim invaders?!? Since they refuse to fight...
