What happened to in-school suspension? Disruptive students were sent to a classroom where they did their assignments under the supervision of a large, stern, male teacher. Has that been declared unconstitutional?

Yes, we had ISS, too. The problem is that, at least in my class, we discussed the concept, illustrated examples, did some projects and group work...I tried to change things up and focus on ways that the math was useful in the real world... especially making links to things they already knew how to do or understood intuitively.

Compared to that, giving a student a worksheet they don't understand how to do is a poor substitute.

In the olden days you had them wear a cone for a dunce cap and set them in a corner for about 30 minutes. The “shame” of having a dunce cap used to work.
