There is always a delicious irony associated with an extreme animal lover being killed or eaten by the very animal he loves to the extreme. (Now forgive me Lord.)

You take in a 5yr old shelter dog, especially pits and rots, you put yourself & family at risk.

Not all of course, but just like radical islamists, it only takes one to kill and maim.

Smaller, older rescue dogs are just as unpredictable, just not as likely to kill a human.

Pit Bulls and Rotties combined make up something like 90% of all fatal dog attacks. My guy really wants a rottie, but that’s not happening, so we compromised. We currently have 4 chihuahuas, all shelter rescues.

My corgi was attacked once by a Pit Bull while we were on a walk. I would never own a "bully breed" dog.

You may be right. Where I live, animal control equals pest control. They pick up stray dogs and cats, but they also deal with raccoons and other such critters. Their primary function is to remove the “nuisance” and deal with it, which usually means kill it.

Now we do have animal shelters, one of which is a no-kill shelter. They don't euthanize unless the animal is terminally ill or way too aggressive to be placed with anyone. Remarkably, they have had some success with pit bulls and other breeds from dog fighting operations and other horrific situations. Some aggressive dogs can be rehabilitated, but sadly, many cannot. But each dog has to be assessed by a behavioral therapist. I suppose most animal control/pest control facilities don't have the staff or the money for such an assessment.

Do you mean the bear? If so it is public knowledge. The idiot lived with Alaskan brown bears,often saying “I love you bear.” The bears did turn and did eat him and his girlfriend. There was a tape with her screaming “It tore off my arm.” The Forest Service won’t release the tape of their being eaten alive. There bodies were found eaten.
