Yes, I bought an electric car

The wife and I Purchased an electric car about a month ago.

I'm as far as a tree hugger as you can get but we needed a vehicle.

Our son will be starting collage soon so a another vehicle was needed.

Her total commute is close to 6 miles, the car had 2,560 miles when we bought it.

it's a 2012, fairly well equipped with air, power windows, mirrors, power locks, heated seats, etc.

Since the range is only an estimated 62 miles it works for us.

My Car is not restricted on distance since it's petroleum powered so it should work out nicely.

7,750$ for a car that listed @ 23,850 in 2012 looked pretty good.

I had net ever heard about this car it's known as a i miev.

A Chevy Volt may seem a grossly overpriced piece of chit at $36,000 , but you can honestly tell everyone you have a car that cost a quarter million dollars to produce. Ain’t government grand?

Conservatives don’t “hate” electric cars, they hate being forced to subsidize them for a lie.

Right On!!!

Since the a holes in this state shut down all the coal power plants it's more of a natural gas car.

Personally I don't give a ____

This was a matter of economics.

Please buy whatever works for you. Nobody will think the better or worse of you for making your own personal choices (unless you murder babies). Like others up-thread said, conservatives don't dislike EVs. We dislike the fact that they have received decades of our tax money support, all in the name of combating a phony problem. Here's the perfect example of why conservatives hate government intervention in markets:

Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up to $250K Per Vehicle

Analyst: 'This might be the most government-supported car since the Trabant'

Government simply will not tell the truth about "green" technologies -- they are FAR dirtier than they claim when you count total cradel-to-grave consumption of resources and waste disposal, they require decades or centuries of tax support to stay alive, they are generally underperforming and not reliable, they serve the perpetual government fetish of "saving energy," they swallow billions of dollars of our tax-dollar support to create millions of PhDs who perpetuate the lies, and they trick gullible people by the millions with their phony claims of "saving the planet."

A used electric car?

Priority has to be the battery pack. How many charging cycles do you have left (this can only be estimated)? Are the batteries proprietary (unique to the vehicle) or will any lead/acid battery fit?

Replacing the batteries could cost more than the value of the whole car. Is that why the previous owner decided to sell?

We have a dealer in the next town but from what I’ve read the maintenance is like zero (the thing is still under warranty as well)

I’m an engineer driving a 57 Bel Air and a 67 Camaro - gas hogs. But I have no problem with electrics, as long as they aren’t pushed as being the salvation of mankind. Ditto for solar panels etc. Each has its niche. It’s just the idea that we are going to somehow live in a hydrocarbon free world just torques me no end.
