Yep. I have three dogs. Love ‘em all. A hound, a golden retriever and a maltipoo. The hound was dropped off as a puppy by our place.
I personally would not do what this woman did. But I’m not binary on reasonable behavior. There is not “perfect pet owner” vs “should burn in hell for swatting their dog.”
I cut people a lot of slack for all are sinners. And let’s be frank here: Duct taping the dog for 2 seconds would not be harmful. Nor would 4 seconds. Ten days would be really bad. So would five. One minute? Sorry, I have no compassion for the dog. None.
Yeah, in spite of their “need to pant”. Was the dog uncomfortable? you bet. The woman will probably now know that it hurts the dog more than she realizes and won’t do it again. But the dog is fine. It is not even scarred for life.
My position on this story is not even about the dog. It’s about the insane and irrational judgementalism of a culture that doesn’t even really know where it gets its values from in the first place. Just read what these nuts are saying about this. It’s hard to take any of them seriously:

Yes. And what IS animal abuse? Who gets to define its specifics “on the fly”.

People are stark-raving mad. Look at the dispatch comment - people go nuts over this still photo and block up lines for serious timely emergencies.
And some FRers otherwise wonder why our society is so screwed up.

Unless you are a personal acquaintance of this woman, your position is based on gross ignorance. Now, mine is too. But that is why I’m not judging. There is nothing worth it from the information I have. Actually, it’s not worth it anyway. Not my business and even if she is guilty of everything she said, I’m not seeing anything warranting the venom my countrymen are leveling at this woman for a very innocent act.
Heck, in some countries they eat dogs. And they are not killed “painlessly”. Bacon, when it is alive, is arguably smarter than dogs, but I still eat it.
People need to lighten up and treat others as they would like to be treated. And by others, I mean HUMANS. That is who Christ died for. And his instruction covers judgement and forgiveness.

Sure, people don’t always like it, but then a lot of spoiled brats at universities don’t like the way things go down either. Tough. In a free world people do all sorts of things you and I disagree with. It makes life hard, especially if you’re stupid. If you have a rational perspective you focus your attention on the big stuff - and there is plenty of it out there. This 60 second taping thing is beyond stupid as an emotional issue and is best left to PETA members.

That’s pretty much it.
The sad thing is that there seem to be no small number of freepers that fall into that group. I love my animals, but I know what they are. And I know they are my responsibility.
It’s interesting to watch a rancher bash a cow in the head with a 2x4 to get it to move up a ramp. The cow barely knows what’s going on but it “looks” horribly cruel to the ignorant.
Too many get their sensibilities from watching too many cartoons as a child that had talking animals.
They got her a couple of days ago, I checked...apparently she said she was to ‘high classed’ to do something like that, really????

Same goes for husbands. So I got rid of him and kept the dog(s).
