Had to do it. Had to create the thread. The game is too damned good. This thread is reserved for hardcore gamers who play Fallout 4. Norm, KC, TADSLOS and I have hijacked so many threads discussing this game, I felt we needed our own thread.
Fallout 4 is amazing. The content is excessively large. There is so much to explore, you could replay this game 10 times and not find every mission or quest. The characters are so much better fleshed out than any other game I have played. Even the radio announcer of Diamond City Radio will have you doubling over in laughter, he's so inept at radio announcing. :) Your companions will pitch in with consistently new, sometimes insightful, and almost always area- or mission appropriate comments. I even got Piper (the hot Reporter chick) to sleep with me. It took a lot of sweet talking. But now she's in love. "Piper, how do you feel about our relationship?" Her answer: "Blue, this is as close to nirvana as I will ever find. Who knew a jaded reporter like me would find love in a wasteland?"
Fallout 4 is so graphics-intensive that I had to upgrade my video card to the GTX970 from Nividia, and I am so glad I did. 4 gigs of video memory, and a solid GPU array. Now I get 60 FPS (at the best) down to about 30 FOS (at the worst) with occasional dips to an unacceptable 24 FPS when in extremely busy, high clutter city areas with lots of combatants.
Our first topic: I want to mod the songs. I want change the Classical Radio Station to play songs I like.
I have six titles so far, that would fit in this game:
Filter's "Hey Man, Nice Shot" to be triggered during combat
Drowning Pool's "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor", also triggered during combat.
Lil Jon's "Turn Down For What"
Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness"
NIN's "Every Day Is Exactly The Same"
Any other suggestions?
I grant you, it's a shack made of slightly radioactive boards and scraps of metal, but it a home nonetheless.
Ping for later perusal. Will have to wait until I get back from my trip in late January to purchase and play, but very excited for it!
Fallout: New Vegas was awesome-er.
Fallout 4 rips the awesome off the computer screen and stuffs it down your throat.
Taken with Destiny.
Laz, I have no idea about anything about the Fallout games, but I so admire your enthusiasm about them.
My eldest son is a gamer for many years. It is a special world.
I’m almost 70...and I enjoy playing it. Does this make me abnormal??? I kind of see it as “training”.
We in the gamer world get to live 1000 lives before we die in real life. :)
It makes you the most normal 70 year old I know. :)
Finally bought an xbox 360 last year.
Never owned any console— or played these kind of games — before. Bought some old games to try it out.
Played Fallout Las Vegas to the conclusion. Now adventuring in Skyrim.
Amazing stuff. Very different from what I expected. Skyrim is a beautiful world.
:sigh:
It sounds like an interesting game but that just puts it off-limits for me.
Wasteland on the C64.
Fallout and Fallout 2 in the golden age of turn-based RPGs.
10 year break
Fallout 3 (Wow! Wait... why can’t the Supermutant just...?)
Fallout New Vegas (So good, still playing it)
Fallout 4 (Eager Anticipation)
I got Skyrim on a deal (Steam sold it for 9.99 for the Deluxe version, all DLC included).
I booted Skyrim.
The graphics PALE in comparison to FO4. It’s the difference between 8-bit Donkey Kong and FO3.
Norm will start talking about modding now, I assume. :)
What is the map size? As large as Skyrim?
I can't wait until the modding community starts releasing their mods.
GTX970 was 300$ for me, and if I had only waited 2 days, the Black Friday special over at Nividea would have made it only $250.
YOU CAN AFFORD IT.
Looks like Skyrim mods are available only on PC based games. Is that true?
And if I splurge on an Xbox One — can those games be modded?
The size is actually small. But every little bit of the map has 4, 5, 6 explorable and interesting areas.
FO:NV, FO3, and ES-Skyrim have bigger maps, but much sparser.
I cannot speak with authority about PC vs 360 vs xbox, but what little I have seen says PC is the way to go.
I’m about the same age as you, and I love these games. It may turn out to not be too far from reality.
There were mods that introduced entire new cities.
I'm sure Bethesda will create new areas when they release their expansions.
