Seeing strange characters on the forum under Firefox 42

Seeing a lot of strange characters in some of the posts. Quotation marks, apostrophes, etc., are showing up as strange characters. I am currently using Firefox 42. Until the Source URL, I have linked a page here that displays the issue. For example, ââ¬Å appears to be an open quote.

I don't recall this being an issue in the past. I do realize that some web pages show up like this with Firefox, but I don't remember seeing it so much with Free Republic. Anyone else seeing this?

Yes. It is occurring with cut & paste quotation marks and marks like this -. I gather it is tough to root out the underlying problem.

I started seeing all those strange characters about a month or so ago. I use Internet Explorer. I know others have mentioned it but I never caught what was causing it.

Even my copy and paste attempt to show an example got mangled.

I don't know nuthin' ... but I personally think the internet will be cluttered with crap making communication difficult
Have you tried to READ that crap with a ton of quotations and apostrophe's ???
And now THIS post just infected me with red underlined misspellings

Interesting. Usually IE masks these kinds of web page issues. Seems it might be less about display the characters properly as it is the insertion of these characters in a post, as was mentioned.

You can clean it up by manually removing the offending mark and typing in it’s replacement

Yeah, that part I got. It is just that some pages are really difficult to read. I suppose you get used to it.
Trying to decide if there is a way to create a userscript within Greasemonkey to trap these out. It's a bit beyond my basic understanding of userscripts.

Since I post a daily Bible Study, with cut-and-paste Bible passages, I too have been struggling with this. I have found a solution to the problem, though it is a bit tedious and requires a little work.
Delete all the punctuation and re type it. Especially apostrophes, quote marks, and dashes.
Then check the post and see if you missed any.
Right now, we are studying the Book of Acts, which contains a LOT of dialogue. It has been taking twice as long to do my daily thread, but it looks nice when I’m done.
I use Firefox on a mac Mini.

Specifically, edit your posts to replace all the quotation marks and apostrophes. There may be other offending punctuation marks that I’m not remembering right now.
