Samsung could add one of the iPhone's best features to its new smartphone (3D Touch)

Samsung could be looking at introducing a pressure sensitive display on the upcoming Galaxy S7, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The feature would be similar to 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, measuring the amount of force on the screen and performing different actions based on that.

The iPhone has a "peek" and "pop" feature that allow a user to interact with apps different, showing a small amount of information on the home screen, for example.

The design of the Galaxy S7 will also be similar to that of the S6, according to the report. The only difference will be that the bulge on the back -- which holds the camera -- will be smaller.

Samsung announces they are going to include hardware pressure sensitive screens to their next smartphones, like Apple's patented 3D Touch. Hmmmmm, wonder how they are going to do that without infringing the patent? -- PING!

I fail to see the value of this 3D touch. (Or the Live Photo.) But seriously, what’s so special about this 3D touch?

Samsung had better be careful. They might end up losing in court again and having to pay Apple millions....again.

Samsung had to pay agreed to pay Apple $548 million today on the previous infringement suit. They also filed a US Supreme Court Appleal on $399 million of that payment asking the court to revisit its previous decisions on Design Patents and vacate them for Samsung, saying that such patents shouldn't be enforced for modern patents, or if they are, infringers shouldn't have to pay their entire profits for copying someone else's design. . . which is what the patent law and case law has held for about 135 years. Samsung says that's unfair to be applied to them when they steal designs.

Look at this video:

It’s just another kind of gesture. How great it is depends on what developers do with it. Some of the best examples:

- Pressing on the keyboard turns it into a trackpad. Makes editing a lot easier.

- Pressing and sliding up on any image reveals the options to save an image or copy its URL. Doing the same with a URL allows you to bookmark or open in a new tab.

- The Weather Channel app pops up a window on the home screen letting you go straight to the forecast of any of your favorite cities, or local radar.

- Shazam can start recognizing songs immediately.

Thanks. I’ll check it out. I love the super quick fingerprint unlocking on my new phone and some of the other new stuff, but I didn’t understand the value of the 3D touch. So thanks.

BTW, I have a 128 GB 6s Plus. I sure do enjoy the value and simplicity it brings to my life. I think it’s the 4th iPhone I have had; it’s my favorite.
