The Ballad of Admiral Piett
The Atlantic ^ | December 15, 2015 | David Sims

Firmus Piett’s most memorable scene in the Star Wars series is the moment of his promotion. Standing silently in the background, he watches nervously as his boss, Admiral Ozzel, gets telepathically strangled by Darth Vader, the homicidal sadist everyone in the Galactic Empire has to answer to. Vader summons him forward, gives him his orders, and intones, “You are in command now, Admiral Piett,” as Ozzel collapses on the floor. So goes life in the Empire: There’s plenty of upward mobility, but job turnover is high, and workplace safety truly abysmal.

Admiral Piett should of become a Nelson destroying the Rebel fleet above Endor if not for the meddling of the Emperor who decided to roll the dice trying to convert Luke Skywalker.

The one character I would have loved to have seen is Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Can you imagine someone like Benedict Cumberbatch in the role?

They seem to still be cribbing ideas from the expanded universe for the new movie, just changing names and plot details around a bit.

So who knows? Maybe a Thrawn-esque character may still show up?

He’s not menacing enough for such a role.

He was terrible as Khan in the last Star Trek.

Was that what he was playing ? I thought Benny was playing a member of “The Waltons” clan. He’s too busy demanding the English gubmint bring in more Jihadists these days.

I think James Spader would be a better fit for the role.

Don't forget the indomitable General Veers, probably the most competent of Vader's officers, who survived into the so-called "expanded universe."

Cumberbatch as Thrawn would absolutely rock!

That General was great. So calm and cool in the heat of battle.

I was thinking more along the lines of Smaug from “The Hobbit”, that voice...
