60 Minutes goes inside Apple’s weekly exec meeting, design studio, spaceship campus, & more

As expected, this weekend’s episode of 60 Minutes on CBS was chockfull of Apple news and anecdotes. Retail chief Angela Ahrendts, design head Jony Ive, CEO Tim Cook, and many more all joined host Charlie Rose to discuss a wide range of topics, including encryption, terrorism, design, retail, and much more…

First off, Cook again talked about how users shouldn’t have to choose between privacy and national security. “I think that’s an overly simplistic view,” Cook explained. “We’re America. We should have both.” Building on that, Cook reiterated the fact that there shouldn’t be a backdoor for anybody into consumer devices. This is a stance Cook has taken many times in the past, despite the recent issues of terror around the world.

Cook explained that iOS devices nowadays hold so much personal information, including health data, financial data, intimate conversations, and much more. It takes a special key to access that data, Cook said. And that’s a key to which even Apple doesn’t have access.

"If there's a way to get in, somebody will find the way in. There have been people who suggest that we should have a back door. But the reality is if you put a back door in, that back door's for everybody, for good guys and bad guys."

Moving on, Cook and Rose discussed Apple’s use of Chinese labor and some of the issues that go along with it. Cook said that Apple’s use of foreign labor has nothing to do with wages, but rather with the skills that those workers possess and many American workers lack. This, Cook explained, is due to China putting an enormous focus on manufacturing, while the U.S. moved away from a focus on vocational skills:

It’s touted as a energy neutral building with the latest of green tech. But, I wonder how many animals and plants were displaced and destroyed to build this monstrosity?

Apple tore down the old empty HP campus, parking lot, and long dis-used factory that sprawled all over the place. . . so your answer is very few. Nice try to find a new way to smear Apple, Parmy.

Zero, Rome2000. Although Tim Cook had been acting as Interim CEO for 17 months at the time of Steve Jobs' death on October 7, 2011, the company closed out its fiscal year a couple of weeks before with a market cap value of $354 BILLION. Even with the drop in the overall market this last week, Apple's current market Cap, under Tim Cook is $591 BILLION. It has been as high as $745 BILLION. Apple's technicals have never looked as good. . . but Cook cannot be held responsible for the delusional vagaries of the stock market. . . or the games that are played by the rumor mongers who attempt to manipulate stocks for their own gain.

Your premise is completely bogus. . . And your conclusion is even worse.

Your snarky question says a lot about you. None of it good.

Just glad I don’t have any Apple stock.

The market is going to crash overall in January, Apple is going to go even lower.

No confidence in Cook on Wall St. after the watch fiasco

How many billions has he helped our economy. A ton. What the heck are you talking about? He has made stockholders very wealthy including myself thank you very much. You probably bitched about Columbus making a wasted trip to America back in the day, laughed about stupid Ben Franklin and the key, probably called the founders idiots for writing a stupid piece of paper with outlandish words on it (your historical words). Lord, get a grip. Apple has done a lot for this country. And you? Oh yeah complain all day long on a website. Congratulations.

Good time to buy more stock. Are you even familiar with investing at all? Not to be rude but are you on disability where you don’t have any money but the money the government gives you? If not for investments, I know for a fact, I would not be sending 4 kids to Catholic School, own two homes, and a host of other things. If you need help in starting investing, let me know....you can start with 25 dollars a month and go from there........soon you will be amazed at how it grows. I actually started with 400 dollars in 1987 from my high school graduation money and it is incredible the amount I have now. A sum I thought I’d never have. Just let me know. I want to help you.

Cook says Chinese workers better than Americans.

What a dang liar, he said they were better at manufacturing job because their schools teach them subjects that our schools don’t touch. I can’t believe how much you lie all over the place.

What do they care? Their new Calypso Louie Farrakhan inspired mother ship is their church, that they attend each business day where they worship themselves. Bunch of amoral leftist, politically correct and gay pukes, all be it wealthier than most

Inside their new space station Zebra headquarters their main activity is marketing and efficient distribution. Three thousand miles away the Chinese/Asians take care of the other stuff such a at least 80% of the software and industrial design. And 100% of the hardware and manufacturing.

Righttttttttttt! I vastly prefer my Sansa clip to the crappy ipods where you have to install itunes on your computer in order to load the ipod. Apple is controlling and a stupid bunch of toll collectors. Sansa loads in a common sense way and I use it only when taking a long walk. No way do I want to be hearing music for hours each day the way some ipod worshippers do.
