This is like the Night of the Living Dead
Microsoft's relentless campaign to push Windows 10 onto every PC on the planet knows no bounds: now business desktops will be nagged to upgrade.
When Redmond started quietly installing Windows 10 on computers via Windows Update, it was aimed at getting home users off Windows 7 and 8. If you were using Windows Pro or Enterprise, or managed your machines using a domain, you weren't supposed to be pestered with dialog boxes offering the free upgrade.
Until now.
According to Microsoft on Wednesday, the controversial try-hard "Get Windows 10" nagware is now coming to an office near you:
We will begin to roll out the "Get Windows 10" app to additional devices that meet the following criteria, in the US later this month and in additional markets shortly thereafter:Microsoft claims it's doing this because many small businesses - the sort of organizations that run Windows Pro, use a domain, but leave automatic updates on - want an easy way to install the new operating system. If companies really want this software, you'd think they'd install it themselves - or opt in for it, rather than having to opt out repeatedly.
- Running and licensed for Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro
- Configured to receive updates directly from the Windows Update service (i.e. updates are not managed by WSUS or System Center Configuration Manager on those devices)
- Joined to an Active Directory domain
You can try your luck following these instructions to halt the upgrade - until Microsoft changes the rules again. Windows Enterprise edition in large corporations will avoid the automatic, virtually mandatory, upgrade.
The telemetry phoned home to Redmond by Windows 10 worries quite a few folks, but won't freak everyone out. However, the pushy assumption by Microsoft that we should unquestioningly swallow Windows 10 will continue to aggravate: it's straight out of its 1990s bullyboy playbook, except rather than screw over its rivals, Microsoft is now turning the screws on its own customers.
Somewhere deep inside Redmond, an exec is looking at the stats and repeating to themselves: "200 million people can't be wrong."

The fact that mickeysoft is giving this away free AND forcing users to take it is disturbing.
Follow the money- how are they benefiting from this?
Against my advise my sister upgraded to 10. None of her drivers work for her printers. She was told by HP they did not have drivers for her 2 year old printers.
Given the amount of useful private marketing-relevant and private-communications-relevant data they send back as "telemetry" by default, I'd say it's a combination of advertisers and the government.
But what do I know? I only know what I read on Free Republic threads! :-)
This is a loss leader, it is free now but everyone will eventually gradually pay one way another and there is more than money involved, power and control cannot be measured in dollars but is worth far more, in government and global corporate business there is no such thing as free it ultimately results in slavery of some form.

I have Windows 8.1 and have been unable to install any new printers. Thankfully I have my trusty EPSON Stylus PHOTO R380 that will print.
Windows 10, the Trojan Horse operating System. Just say no.
I’ve never encountered the “Get Windows 10” nag except in a browser window. But then I’m running enterprise versions of Windows (7, 8.1, and 10).
I did have one VM spontaneously upgrade to 10 (Win-7 Enterprise to the freebie Win-10). It won’t activate, probably because it doesn’t fit the qualifications. Interestingly, outside of the fact that it won’t let me personalize the desktop I find it advantageous to have an unlicensed version since it also won’t let the automatic updates proceed ;’}

Another fun affect is the my Windows 7 will no longer accept updates. It’ll see them, it just won’t take them. Microsoft isn’t just satisfied with just nagging you to “upgrade” to Win 10, now they’re resorting to sabotaging previous versions of Windows.
I’ve tried the Windows 10.
Almost everything runs and runs well.
ONE exception. My RAID card does not have windows 10 drivers available.
I don’t like the idea of running without a RAID.

Everything I read about Windows 10 reminds me of that old canard about rape. If it’s inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.
The ad slogan for Windows 10 ought to be. “Relax and Enjoy It.”
My XP is just humming right along.
I keep hearing about this, but I have a hard time believing that MS would open themselves up to the legal liability of potentially capturing HIPAA/PCI information.

Big Brother is watching US, Microsoft Win 10 is the tool.
Looks like many computer magazines and web sites are getting paid for pushing “innocent telemetry collection” and snooping inside of our computers. I am happy with Win 7 and Win8.1 on tablets.
Oh, and watch out. Some MS updates try to restore settings for snooping. Good to check the system with GWX later on too.
My next computer will have 10. I will not “upgrade” my current computers. I will not install an operating system which may or may not disable my currently working programs.
People have to use Windows for business or for certain programs or games.
But for general web surfing and home office use, I use Linux. It’s so much faster and better. When I boot Windows 10 up now I’m amazed how slow and buggy it is.
