So I keep getting calls from 212-650-7149 on my cell. The Microsoft error problem scam. I called back and got a recorded message from City College of New York that that number was a fax line. They have taken out of service however the scammers somehow have continued to use that number in caller ID. Also from India as best I can tell. Just low life scum. I thank them for calling and tell them about the solar panel scam I run, Ask if they want to work for me? They hang up. Sometime they just get the old obscene tirade back and they hang up. Hey they called me so I don’t have to be nice. SCUM

1. The do not call registry is a joke. It does not stop robo calls at all and they are increasing

2. Most of the people are just workers at a crummy job because we don’t have jobs that are productive anymore and we have to make jobs to push services that nobody really wants or needs.

3. I used to just not answer or pick up and immediately hang up.

4. Now, when they call at dinner I do several things depending on how nasty I want to be and how bad a day it has been. I use them to take out my frustrations instead of getting a dog or something to kick. I pretend they are obongo or some other politician or person at work I hate.

5. I always tell them to please not call me any more in a very clear voice then I launch into my rage where I ask for their home number so I can call them back at midnight (one actually gave it), I tell them if they ever call me again I will find a way to hunt them down but nothing more than that, I told one this morning it is Sunday morning and that he has invaded my privacy (he actually apologized), I like the talking porn to them angle that might be fun.

I am going to use them as whipping boys or as entertainment in every way I can. I am also going to be downright mean and nasty.

Spoofing caller ID is easy these days.

I don’t talk to them long enough to find out. A quick “no thanks” and hang up the second I find out it’s any kind of business call.

However it is another human being on the other side of the line trying to make an honest living

No, what they are doing is not "honest living".

Though rarely enforced, making unsolicited telemarketing calls such as these (yes, I know there are exceptions ... charities and such) -- an annoyance to most people though with repeated it quickly grows to harassment -- is illegal ... it is against the law ... it is not an "honest living".

1. Call a phone number that you find is disconnected and record the phone company tones (especially) and message.

2. Record this on to your voicemail to pickup and play after 3 rings.

3. Tell everyone you want to have your number you’ve done this and you’ll try to answer the phone before the 3 rings.

The tones re-programs the bot-call programs the number is to be erased from their database.

My method:
Sales guy: ‘Is Mr. XXX there?’
Me: ‘I can get him. Who is calling?’
Sales guy: XXXcompany name
Me: “Hang on, I will get him’
Set phone down and do things, checking periodically, until they hang up, with an occasional ‘hang on! He’s coming!’
This does several things. It keeps that salesman on the line so he isn’t bothering anyone else, so I am helping my fellow human beings.
I also feel good knowing that they are waiting on me. Usually gone in 30 seconds or a minute. Those that wait 5 minutes get. ‘I paged him he must be out in the field. give me a call back number.’

You can report those places that are making sales calls; they get fined, and they’ll knock it off. Many people don’t sign their cellphones up for the blocking; they should, because more and more people only have a cell phone (no land line) - so the telemarketing firms need those numbers.

If it’s not a number I recognize I graciously let them talk to the machine.

Over 90% of the calls on we get on our landline are just this so I screen them too and let them talk to the machine.

Even on my cell phone, I don't answer any number I don't recognize. If it's legit, as it is about one in a hundred times, they can leave a message and they do.

Thanks; some of these have their names show up on caller ID as well.

For most of us, the National Do Not Call Registry is a blessing we could scarcely live without. After all, it keeps us from getting annoying calls at all hours of the day.

You lost me right there.
The Do Not Call List is a joke IMO. Sign up and get inundated.

I had 'Steve' call last week claiming my PC was calling them and he could connect online to my computer and fix it. Claimed a problem w/ Windows. Very thick accent.
Told him I was on a Mac and asked him if he was in Bangladesh, he got indignant and said he was Indian.
Asked him if his last name was Gupta or Patel. Really p.o.ed him, No, Rey or sometime like that.

I finally hung up, he called right back. Cut him off and blocked his number.

I get spoofed area code calls often, much less than 6 months ago.

Bought a Panasonic cordless w/ the ability to block 250 numbers and/or entire area codes.
When I get calls from screwy area codes I just block the whole area code.

When the telemarketing caller asks if I'm “Mrs. So-n-So”.... I say they've reached a nursing home and we have two patients by that name which one do the want?.... They hang up and don't call again...!

Delightful!
Sometimes when I am in a very bad mood I have them wait for the HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD to shuffle down the stairs -
“wait... Wait... hold on he’s almost - - AWW C’MON! THE GUY IS STILL WAITING! HURRY! Yes, yes he’s almost here.. Wait...Ahh, just a sec...”

I stopped the duct cleaning service calls!

A forced air heating cooling system has air ducts. They can be cleaned.

Anyways, get a call offering a deal on duct cleaning.
I respond “great, are you coming to my home, or should I bring my ducks to you?”
Salesperson reponds in a confused state - What are you proposing, bringing your ducts to us???
I reply, “I got 12 ducks penned up in the back yard, they could use a good cleaning, I can load them up on the trailer and be at your place in an hour!”

Salesperson tries to explain his service cleans ducts, not ducks.
They usually hang up if I pretend not to understand what they are saying.
