So why are his brand name ties made in Mexico?
On one hand Apple brags of their enormous profits and cash holdings, over $200 billion in cash. On the other hand, they claim they must assemble their products in cheapo China because they couldn’t afford to do it otherwise. BS! Trump is right!
Amen.
All we need to do is insist that all imported products must comply with US labor, safety, environmental, healthcare, and discrimination laws.
Let those Chinese factories stop hiring children, start paying US minimum wages, provide healthcare, meet US safety standards, stop dumping their waste products in the nearest river, and hire by quota, and you will see competitive American products.
And thousands of new manufacturing jobs to pay the living wages that will make up the difference of the higher prices.
“We’re going to get Apple to build their damn computers and things in this country instead of in other countries.”
If he could accomplish that, I don’t think the electorate would be very pleased when the extra costs of doing business in the United States get passed on to them. I haven’t heard a single person opine “gee, I’d be willing to pay twice as much for an iPhone”.
Foxconn is not slave labor.
Compared to the US, their wages are low, but compared to the rest of China, they are pretty good.
They work 40 hour weeks and overtime is capped at 60 hours per month.
There are no children working in the factories.
Apple has regular inspections of Foxconn facilities to make certain that they are compliant with their contracts, which insist on, among other things, no child labor.
If you, as a business owner, had the choice between paying someone $2.50 an hour or $7.50 an hour, which would you choose?
Maybe, just maybe, the regulatory climate in the US has driven jobs overseas?
Good luck with that.
A few years ago, Jobs said that it would cost about $80 more to build an iPhone in the USA. Given what people seems to be willing to spend on status products, I think they would pay it.
Who is Trump (blessed be his name!) that he thinks he can tell Apple what to do or how to do it. What a maniacal little fascist he is (all hail!)
Good idea but a poor way of saying it.
I would mandate that goods sold in the USA must comply with American standards. Human rights, safety, environmental, etc. That would bring a ton of manufacturing back here.
No more outsourcing to Chinese slavers who pollute the entire planet!!
And so should Qualcomm.
Given the number of people that bought an I-watch; I'd say you were correct.
The same reason Marriott, Hilton, and other hotel and real estate corporations do. To build a portfolio. Not to cut labor costs and avoid taxes.
I would pay $80 for an American-made iPhone.
Tell me again about those four bankruptcies, and those pay to play contribution that are just "good business" practices of the exalted Trump (blessed be his name!). Maybe he just couldn't afford to build strip joints otherwise.
Sorry....I would pay $80 MORE for an American-made iPhone.
I’d prefer Trump tell us how he is going to FREE Americans and the economy from Government dictates, taxes, rules and job-killing regulations - rather than have him demand, like some socialist dictator, that companies do this or that.
“Help” would be a better word than “Force”
If Trump was talking about making the business environment more favorable so as to encourage companies like Apple to build here, that's one thing. If he was saying they should be compelled to build them here, that's something else entirely. But you can't tell which it is from the article because the limited quote provided is too truncated. So either the journalists are too stupid to see that they've created a material ambiguity, or they deliberately fail to provide context to either help or hurt the candidate.
As much as a I hate them in general, I think incompetence is just as likely as malevolence. Either way, it's frustrating.
Apple will bring jobs back to the US just as soon as Americans are willing to accept a wage of less than two dollars a day.
Until then, all of our jobs will go to the lowest foreign bidder.
Oh, and don’t forget about all of the FRee (slave) market traitors who will tell you that to your face, while holding a knife behind their back, willing to destroy the country to make a quick buck. After all, they won’t live forever, and they can’t take it with them, and they damn sure don’t care what happens to their progeny.
Let me guess. It will be Great! Huge even!
