The average Chinese “consumer” earns about $1000 per month if they are upper middle class.

“Opening up” China’s markets won’t accomplish anything. That’s why China is AN EXPORT ECONOMY. They can’t even sell their own products at home!!

Ted is effing clueless about economics.

Actually, the good news is that both of them are at least saying they will play tougher with China. That’s a big change.

In the highly unlikely event Cruz should become President, he’d have 2 years before the Republicans would HELP the Democrats obtain a majority in the 2018 midterms. And if the Republicans screw around and lose the majority in the Senate in 2016 he’d have gridlock from the get-go. Which of course Cruz likes.

A comedy show could be made here. I don’t think they will be very happy when the voting starts.

The trade and manufacturing imbalance are caused by the Chinese currency manipulation!!

Bureaucratic band aids are meaningless until the manipulation is stopped.

Trump is the only one of the clowns who even broached the topic of China. Every one of the candidates is a Trump issues copycat. It’s really pathetic. Trump has original thought. The rest are benchwarmers looking for a $200,000 annual salary and benefits for life. Rubio exemplifies this.

China never would have come up with Cruz if not for Trump.

And it would never come up again if he got elected.

I think a lot of people underestimate the negative consequences of everyone hating you. The POTUS isn’t a dictator, at least he shouldn’t be, so for someone who proclaims his strict adherence to the constitution (when convenient anyway) I think Cruz couldn’t get much of anything done...well at least nothing that he’s running on.

I would also remind everyone that in Trump we have a man who does not stand in front of a mirror for hours parsing every single word he plans to utter someday, and then writes it out or uses a tele-prompter to be certain he says it exactly as planned. Therefore, the listener needs to use some common sense in interpreting what has been said.

Another way of putting this is that nobody, apart from Trump, knows what he really believes. He just says whatever he needs to say to close the deal. The nice thing about elections is that campaign promises aren't legal obligations. Trump can say whatever he needs to say to get elected, and then he'll get to do whatever he really wants to do.

Trump’s plan = Americans pay surcharge on goods produced in China, but not goods produce in America.

Cruz’ plan = Americans pay surcharge on goods produced in America, but Chinese don’t.

I think a lot of people here underestimate the negative consequences of voting for someone who's lying to you to get what he wants. Trump may be a born-again conservative. Or he may be a liberal posing as a conservative to win an election. Like Obamacare, you have to vote for him to find out what he's really planning.

Why would Trump go through this kind of trouble? Why did Bloomberg spend hundreds of millions to become NYC mayor? Because it's the presidency - it's a chance to enter the history books. Nobody's ever heard of the 50th richest real estate investor in King Sargon's Assyria. Anyone who's ever covered ancient Near Eastern history has heard of Sargon.

First, American exports to China would no longer have to pay tax, making them tremendously more competitive to sell in China.

Yep. Sure thing. Go with it.

But, there is nothing in the Cruz plan that provides leverage to get the Chinese to back down and play fair. In fact it is a further subsidy to China, who can now raise import tariffs by the same amount and get the goods at the same price as before.

Oh, I bet China would come up- but not in a context that would benefit Americans.

from Wikipedia

He represented Chinese company Shandong Linglong Rubber Company in an appeal after the company was found guilty and ordered to pay $26 million to a Florida businessman for marketing versions of tires that were based on blueprints stolen by a former employee of the Florida businessman. The appeals court denied the appeal and affirmed the jury’s award.

and

Cruz represented Toyota in an appeal to stop a judge from investigating the company after a former Toyota in-house lawyer accused Toyota of unlawfully withholding documents in a product liability case involving a teenage quadriplegic.[72] Cruz unsuccessfully argued that Toyota could not be investigated because the judge’s jurisdiction expired thirty days after the case was dismissed following an out-of-court settlement

Cruz has an interesting history in private practice. (He loses a lot & is as smarmy in private practice as he is a senator & running for office.) T’all should go read it.

Thank G-d Trump is an angel. For we would have no problem being ruled by angels. Or, if not an angel, at least a rock-ribbed Constitutionalist and adherent to Federalism. But IF not even that, at least a proud American and nationalist. A fine backup nominee.

And your candidate is better just how?

Being Mayor of NYC, while not a small job at all, does’t require taking the brutal abuse that running for POTUS, or being POTUS does...IMO.

Trump could just keep building towers and resorts but I believe he is worried about our country disintegrating further. He talked about the smell of death in NYC. I heard others talk about this and I’m sure you don’t forget it. Trump is a man of action - as he said he decided to do it himself..to stop the continued decline of the USA.

I for one am happy someone with his experience has stepped up to the plate and we aren’t stuck with the usual political hacks. You probably don’t agree but that’s my opinion.
