It's not just the hypocrisy of a New Yorker being offended by imagined slurs from flownovers - it's his utter ignorance that it was a New York elitist that concocted the slur in the first place and directed it at the flownovers.
Here's another New York value: we can dish it out, but we can't take it.

Human nature dictates that we see ourselves, our families, our cities our states our regions our countries, as superior.
How do you think a bunch of Texans talk about NY’ers. “You know, those boys up in NYC, sure know how to dress! Got nice duds, they do.”
“Yep, and I really like their football team too. But I hope they come in second place!” (Laughter, snorting, slaps on the back)
Trump is a dem “thing”. However, God has raised up Ted Cruz for such a time as this, and he will prevail.
One of the things I dislike about Cruz’s campaign is that he started this pretty nasty divisive conversation pitting Americans against each other. I don’t want us to nominate a “President of The South”. In order to actually, you know, win the election and be able to do anything, the candidate has to be broadly appealing enough to win. I’d prefer someone who is more demonstrably able to at least bring everyone to the table and hear everyone out.
That doesn’t mean that everyone at the table gets something, but dismissing “New York values” makes it seem like if he’s elected, Ted Cruz isn’t going to give a damn about anyone in any city in America. This hurts his electability on the national level so badly I don’t even know why he’s in contention for the nomination anymore, to be honest. I think he really shot himself in the foot with these comments and has picked a fight that voters aren’t going to forget about in November.
Well. Enjoy your butt hurt and your democrat overlords then.

Cruz supporter here, who agrees wholeheartedly with the substance of the “New York Values” remark and with Ted’s follow up that Trump actually coined the term.
But it was an unforced error by Cruz, trying to gain in the short term but weakening in the long term, and appealing to regional division rather than unified principles of limited government under the Constitution. Ted should have come back at Donald for his individual emotional reactions to challenge and his history of supporting liberal causes and politicians, not for where he is from.
Having said that, Trump, Clinton, Sanders, and now perhaps Bloomberg all have very strong NYC ties. Cruz alone among the top tier is not connected there. Tactically I’m not sure whether/how Cruz as the nominee could exploit that; perhaps by strongly identifying with Flyover country while refraining from any hint of further criticism of NYC. But just because that would work with me, doesn’t mean it would deliver 270 Electoral votes.
Personal insults by Cruz supporters are just losing him votes. But if that makes you feel good, keep it up. You are only harming your candidate. Your choice. Makes me very happy.

I’m not insulting anyone FRiend. I simply pointed out how your butt hurt will give us another democrat POTUS. It’s happened for 2 election cycles now because we haven’t had our “perfect” candidate. People got mad and stayed home. Congrats!
I am a New Yorker - I own a co-op on Carnegie Hill, and a house upstate in Columbia County.
New Yorkers constantly insult other Americans. I’m OK with that, it’s what people do. Insulting people from other parts of this country is as old as this country.
What gets me is the hissy fit we get from New York liberals when folks from “flyover country” - a pejorative I hear every day - push back.

This one didn’t start with Cruz, it started with Trump. And Trump can’t take a dose of his own medicine. Like every other New York liberal.

Everyone knew what he meant, but the wording was imperfect and left him exposed to criticism from the grievance community.
He might better has said “some New York values”. Short of ISIS most every human group has some redeeming values - even NYer’s - and by implying all NY values, he was throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Whether it was tactically the correct move to go there at all, that’s debatable. But Trump is saying he won’t show up.

Well Ted is doubling down on his NY Values comment in Iowa TV spots; I conclude that he must have some data supporting the tactic, at least in Iowa. I still think it’s a long term risk for a potential short term gain.
Actually I think Trump has a valid point on Megyn Kelly being biased, but I think her bias is the same as Trump’s - to be the center of attention, not specifically to pull him down. Ted’s statements notwithstanding, Trump is not afraid of her, he’s just figuring out another way to monopolize the spotlight.
If I were Ted I would argue now that Trump does not have adequate courage of his convictions to defend his Moslem-immigration-ban proposal with an actual Moslem woman on hand to question him.
And I would find a way to shift the burden of holistic American collaboration against radical Islamic terrorism back onto her, as a representative of American Moslems, rather than having her sit in judgment of everyone else’s “racism”. If Islam is a “religion of peace” then Moslems need to speak much louder about that, in their words and their actions, to drown out what the radical terrorists are demonstrating to all of us routinely. Getting all chapped about “Islamophobia” isn’t increasing security or freedom in America, for American Moslems or anyone else.
