The 20% who wouldn't vote is huge

That is probably the 20% who think DC is just fine the way it is now. The candidates they favor will hopefully be run out of DC after this election.

Trying to speak objectively as a Trump supporter, one of my issues with Cruz is his "authenticity" problem. He just comes across as insincere, even if his motives are pure.

Here's a just-released Cruz tweet, that is accompanied by a photo his very adorable little girls running on a dirt road.

Ted Cruz ‏@tedcruz 3m3 minutes ago Iowa, USA We let Caroline & Catherine off the bus for some exercise by Ames. They said they were "running to caucus" #iacaucus

FWIW, it’s incremental. You’ll just keep seeing those things, and nothing to contradict them, and at some point, it gets over-the-top. For me the final straw was the ubiquitous advertising over the Christmas holidays.

Not my term. Some other Freeper cam up with it. It seemed to capture the “tone” of the Cruz supporter’s rhetoric. ;-)

Maybe its the Cruz Crew apps where you turn over your facebook friends for “prizes”, continual requests for funding that makes the Cruz crew so “invested.”

The Cruz campaign is stealing all the best tactics of multi level marketing scam and televangelism.
It would be interesting to poll the Cruz Crew members to see just how many of them have boxes of unsold powdered supplements and scented candles stored in their garages.

I live in Utah which is home to affinity scams....we see this kind of thing a lot. :)

No wonder there is no link. In context, Trump says nothing approaching, “I’ll expedite the return of 11,000,000 illegals.’

If you have to take a quote, rip it out of context and omit the link, you’re spreading falsehoods.

Really? We supported Cruz unanimously and enthusiastically when that political cartoon criticizing using his girls in a campaign ad appeared. But a lot of us thought Cruz was right at the line that children should keep their privacy in campaigns. FWIW, Rubio and Trump have not used minor children in such a way. Trump's older children are adults and working on the campaign, so it's a different situation.

And after the "shaming" scandal, Cruz is still putting his kids in something that refers to the campaign? He is tone deaf to our concerns.

You know, it's not even that the kids are mentioned in the tweet or he posted a photo of them. The children are adorable; he is certainly a proud father, and I do't blame him.

But "They said they were running to caucus" Seriously? Really?

I don't know, maybe it's a pitch to the Church Lady voting bloc.

It is, as you say, tone deaf. So many missed opportunities. So many flubs. Poor choices when he could have seized momentum.

If he survives Iowa, the first thing he should do is fire his campaign manager and senior staff. He might sneak through Iowa, but this approach isn't going to do him good in the long run.

You captured the issue in a nutshell. Teaming with Beck to welcome the foreign invaders with teddy bears and soccer balls [when the average “unaccompanied minor” was a male in his late teens/early twenties] is no way to regain our sovereignty. Then claiming that every time he said he wanted a bill to first “secure” the border, then “legalize” the foreign invaders, he was lying...it just gets to be too much.

LOL! But don’t let the Admin Mods catch you linking to donation pages. After I got a particularly annoying email from Ted, I posted it, and the whole thread was pulled.

Oh yeah, Saudis are totally supporting Trump. Their controlling interest in Fox news is clearly showing that pro-Trump bias... /s

Cruz got off to a great start. Recently, however, something has gone terribly wrong with his campaign.

‘[Trump] and his kid have been on Fox >2x any other candidate.’

Could that have anything to do with the facts that A: Trump is the frontrunner, and B: he generates ratings?

You make the point that many anti-Trumpers are missing. We've been electing conservatives for years (including Ted Cruz) but nothing changes. Nobody has moved the chains. In fact, we are getting sacked for losses and we are losing yardage.

I like Ted Cruz a lot and hope he will be president someday. But I cannot think of a single real accomplishment he had in the senate. I say that not so much to knock Cruz but to make the point that nothing has changed in Washington. Politics go on as usual. The conservative cause has not been advanced one millimeter since the Reagan Administration.

So yes, many of us are fed up. Donald Trump may not be the conservative that Ted Cruz is on paper. But Trump has a lifetime of accomplishments and we are hoping that he takes that same success to Washington. If we somehow nominate Ted Cruz, he will likely not win the general as he has no crossover appeal. I wish it were otherwise but we need to face facts and realize we cannot win a national election today with the conservative base alone. In fact, the same holds true for the liberals. The 20-30 percent in the middle are what decide elections and they are far more likely to cross over to Trump than to Cruz. (Would love to be proved wrong though).

Right now, we need a disruptor. We need somebody to shake things up. Here is where Donald Trump's massive ego and love of controversy can be beneficial to that effort. Trump has no desire to ingratiate himself with the Beltway elite. He doesn't care how many of those people he pisses off. This is what we need. Once we have things sufficiently shaken up, then we can think about others who can move conservatism forward.

I know that Trump has also said he is for gun control and then he is not. And Trump has said he is anti-illegal immigration and then he said his is pro-amnesty with his “EXPEDITED” returning of ILLEGALS. And Trump said that he is pro-universal healthcare and then he said he hates Obamacare. And Trump has said he likes Cruz and then back-stabs him. And Trump has said he likes the Clintons, Obama and deBlasio. That liar has established himself as a liar so projecting it on his very strong pro-abortion is not a stretch. Then, when he claims his pro-partial birth abortion sister would make a good SCOUUS, case closed.

This never ceases to amaze me. Many say they support Cruz bc he is a true evangelical Christian. From that, one might imagine that many of his supporters were Christian. Yet Christians are constrained by the Golden Rule. Thus, we would not call another person a liar without proof positive they were lying. Why? Because we would not like to be adjudged liars by people who do not personally know us, and who do not know our hearts.

One imagines there is a version of the Bible somewhere that contains a variation of to the Golden Rule. Something like, ‘Do unto others as you would have others do unto you...unless the other is Trump. If it’s Trump, treat him with contempt, disdain, and harsh judgmentalism.’

Really? But the vicious and vile attacks Trump has on virtually anyone who doesn’t worship him is OK with you? You find these “Christian”: “bimbo”, “loser”, “dummy”, “not a war hero”, “wacko”, “clown”, “clueless”, “zero credibility”, “nut job”, “dope”, “low life”, “major sleaze”, “lies”, “lightweight”, “dopey”, “fool”, “moron”, “phony”, “disaster”, “dishonest”, “failed”, “hater”, and the list goes on.
So don’t give me “Do unto others” and then support that crude NY liberal.
